He’s guilty. Again. It’s just a matter of whether republicans will convict him or not - and that will depend on whether it’s good for their careers or not.

Sadly, that's probably true. Republicans don't care nearly as much about doing their job as they do about themselves.

100%

That’s why they didn’t convict him the first time. But now that he’s out, there’s a chance they may convict to save their own careers if they do the math and calculate the continuing to hitch their future to trump means they’re going down with the trump ship. All depends on whether their constituents remain die hard trump cultists who won’t re-elect them if they convict trump for his crimes or not.

It is going be difficult for those who participated in the coup attempt to walk back what they said on video and on-line about why they participated.  Even expressing their opinions about the coup attempt may damn Mr. Trump into political oblivion forever.

"I feel like I was basically following my president.  I was following what we were called to do.  He asked us to fly there.  He asked us to be there..." -- Jenna Ryan, a Texas real estate agent.

Jacob Chansley, the Arizona man photographed on the dais in the Senate shirtless and with painted face and furry hat with horns, has similarly pointed a finger at Trump.  Chansley called the FBI the day after the insurrection and told agents he traveled "at the request of the president that all 'patriots' come to D.C. on January 6, 2021".

Chanley's lawyer unsuccessfully lobbied for a pardon for his client before Trump's term ended, saying Chansley "felt like he was answering the call of our president".  Authorities say that while up on the dais in the Senate chamber, Chansley wrote a threatening note to then-Vice President Mike Pence that said: "It's only a matter of time, justice is coming."

 Schadenfreude for all!
