Couldnt happen to a nicer guy. But also....

Might explain the rash move to start this war. He was afraid his life would end before he achieved his geo-political goals of expanding Russia.

On the bright side ...if he kicks off soon then the Kremlin board of directors might replace him with a more public relations friendly, and more rational chairman of the board- who might hit the pause button on the war effort.

And now he leaves a legacy of Russian miltary humiliation and economic disaster instead.
Welcome to Hitler's life.

In the meantime, a dangerous date of May 9 is approaching.
Ukrainians call off all public events and tell citizens not to leave homes unless to bomb shelters on that day. Based on how well they used intelligence information so far, it's gonna be hot.

Also, there's gossip that in Mariupol, civilians are forced to take on Ukrainian uniforms and play POWs. Some ominous show is being prepared.

For those who don't know why May 9 - that's anniversary of Nazi Germany capitulation, celebrated in Russia as "Victory Day", with big military parades. Now the narrative of "fighting nazies" in Ukraine and lack of an actual victory makes it a particularily dangerous moment.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, many Americans who did not have anything to say about the invasion of Afghanistan or Iraq, much less torture at Guantánamo and elsewhere, or Yemen, or Palestine, suddenly started wearing blue and yellow flags.  They displayed no such virtue before, so how can these self-serving souls think they are suddenly being virtuous now?[/color]

Yes, virtue signalling is very prevalent, cost-efficient, pragmatic, dynamic, and user friendly. 8)

Speculation is that he may be dying.
He may not value life like most others, as a result.
If he is responsible for a nuclear winter, he will leave a "legacy" unparalleled in human history.

Another interesting development:
Discussions on some Russian media outlets have Russians embracing death via a nuclear holocaust.
Pure bravado with the intention of intimidating those helping Ukraine, obviously.

those people are mad.

As I said, it is BS bravado.
And quite amateurish. 8)

I suspect that if pootin ever orders a nuclear winter, he will get a bullet to the back of the head quick smart before it can happen. :skull:

Nothing worse than... a bucket list impulse... that goes wrong!

Especially when you're so powerful that your personal bucket list effects whole nations!

Well another thing is, why can't NATO or the UN just put Putin on trial for war crimes? They have done it for other war criminals such as some nazis, so why not for Putin? Just because Putin is not technically in custody? Why does someone have to be in custody to be tried for a crime?

A conviction without having custody of the individual doesn't really amount to much.

But if the person is arrested later, no need for a court case, because the conviction is already done, so it saves time then and straight to a prison sentence, or execution sentence.

The war is only weeks old. The events are still unfolding. Evidence is still coming to light. Its the time to document whatever crimes are happening. Its not the time to convict him personally just yet.

May 9 behind us and what was most surprizing is - it was very low-profile. Reduced parade, defensive speech. No new operations.
Looks like Russians are in even worse situation than we expected.
Bad for Putin. Dictators can't afford defeat.

Well, based on informations leaking from Russian-occupied territories and investigation results on the territories liberated from them, now it's urgent to push Russians out before they do even more harm... then Hague and searching for all the Ukrainians murdered and forcibly relocated to Russia will likely take years...
In the meantime, rebuild :flower:

Yes, traditionally a representation of Chinese government was always invited.
This year, no foreign delegation was invited at all.
Exceptionally low profile.

I believe that even if the Chinese government were invited, the relevant people would immediately be tested positive for COVID or unable to leave the country due to some risk. What a pity that would be.
