Wife of Justice Clarence Thomas signed off on letter saying Capitol attackers 'have done nothing wrong'

Quote:
It has been less than a week since 11 Oath Keepers were arrested with seditious conspiracy, but the spouse of Justice Clarence Thomas believes that they "have done nothing wrong."

Bulwark's Charlie Sykes pointed to a letter signed by Ginni Thomas along with many other fringe conservatives like the Family Research Council, the chair of the Tea Party Patriots Fund and the president of the Club for Growth. The letter speaks out against Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who serve on the Jan. 6 committee which bothers Republicans who believe the GOP should be unified in protecting those who participated in a "coup," as three retired U.S. Army generals characterized it.

It adds to questions about Mrs. Thomas that surfaced after the attack at the U.S. Capitol. On Jan. 6, she was supporting the violence as it unfolded on her social media. When screen captures were being circulated, she promptly deleted her Facebook account, as Law and Crime observed at the time.

It prompted progressives to ask the Jan. 6 Committee to call Thomas to answer questions about whether she helped fund any of the operations through her Republican organization Groundswell. Others said that Thomas should be recused from any cases that ultimately involve Jan. 6 as a result.

“Even worse, however, is the fact that no matter how far his wife takes her antics, Justice Thomas will likely not face any real repercussions for it," CNN noted in their expose of Mrs. Thomas. "Under federal law, justices must recuse themselves from cases in which their 'impartiality might reasonably be questioned,' or where their spouse has 'an interest that could be substantially affected by the outcome.' However, such recusals almost never happen on the Supreme Court. The reality is that while Congress can impeach justices for egregious conduct -- a step not taken since 1805 -- there is no real mechanism for enforcing ethical rules against them."

Virginia "Ginni" Lamp Thomas is an American attorney and conservative activist, so of course she would side with those who took part in Trump's coup attempt!

In 2009, Thomas started Liberty Central, a conservative political advocacy nonprofit associated with the Tea Party movement.  She founded Liberty Consulting in 2010.

Thomas supported Donald Trump during his presidency, offering his administration recommendations on individuals to hire through her work with the conservative coalition Groundswell.  Thomas made an early social media endorsement of the Trump rally that preceded the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol.

Supporting insurrectionists is hardly conservative.

. . . Thomas made an early social media endorsement of the Trump rally that preceded the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol.

Supporting an attempted coup against a liberal president is an example of radical conservatism.

If you really believed the election was stolen, then you might think that rioting at the capitol to try and stop what you thought was electoral theft could be seen as conservative, protecting democracy even. I'm real big on intent when it comes to these things, and I think that aspect gets glossed over quite frequently when discussing the riot.

Washington Post: 29 Arizona lawmakers received messages from Ginni Thomas in apparent bid to swap out Biden electors

Quote:
Virginia "Ginni" Thomas' efforts to call on state lawmakers to disrupt President Joe Biden's 2020 election win were broader than previously known, with The Washington Post reporting Friday that the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas had sent form letters to 29 Arizona legislators encouraging them to meddle in the state's slate of presidential electors.

The new report adds 27 recipients of the messages to the two Arizona lawmakers who, it was reported last month, received apparently prewritten emails from Ginni Thomas.

Justices decide for themselves whether cases present a conflict requiring their recusal. The Supreme Court public information office did not respond to CNN's inquiry about the latest report.
Twenty members of the Arizona House and seven state senators received identical messages on November 9, 2020, the Post wrote.
The message urged the lawmakers to "fight back against fraud" and exercise their supposed constitutional authority to unilaterally choose a "clean" slate of presidential electors.

Another batch of letters from Thomas -- aimed at 22 members of Arizona's House and one of its state senators, according to the Post -- went out on December 13, the day before representatives were set to meet at statehouses across the country to vote to certify their slates of electors. The messages asked the lawmakers that, before they chose the electors, they "consider what will happen to the nation we all love if you do not stand up and lead."
Last month it was first revealed -- in a previous report by the Post as well as in tweets by one of the lawmakers involved -- that Ginni Thomas had participated in the messaging campaign to Arizona lawmakers.

One of the November form letters from Thomas went to state Rep. Shawnna Bolick, who responded to the message with a suggestion that Thomas file any complaints of fraud to the state attorney general and who posted the exchange on Twitter.

You can’t make this stuff up.
