Awhile back,YouTube deactivated their dislike feature on their videos. They didn't remove it, mind you, for obvious reasons.

Those reasons, if they need to be spelled out, are simple:

1. Corporate media networks were tired of being savaged by dislikes from folks who are tired of being served up propaganda on a regular basis.

2. They want it to appear that nobody dislikes their content.

Hilarious, really! The s**t show that our media and political establishment has evolved into is so blatent, it's amazing there is anyone left who doesn't see it.

3. Conspiracy theorists, racists, sexists, Trumpists, and other woo-woo nutjobs were butt-hurt over being disliked.

Is there literally any evidence to support this? It’s pretty hard to imagine that “corporate media networks” care how many people are disliking its YouTube videos - and they almost certainly don’t care whether other people know about that.

YouTube’s explanation:

Quote:
We also saw the dislike count harming parts of our ecosystem through dislike attacks as people actively worked to drive up the number of dislikes on a creator’s videos. These attacks often targeted smaller creators and those just getting started. We want every creator to feel they can express themselves without harassment.

That seems like a much more credible explanation than the frankly absurd “corporate media networks” one.

Good rule: if something seems absurd, check whether it is true, or whether there is a better explanation, before you get outraged.

YouTube is a medium where, basically, any and all opinions hold sway.

That makes absolutely no sense since, these people do not have the power to remove the dislike feature.

I don’t agree with the policy of not recording “dislikes.”

It goes against the principle of an objective analysis of how people feel about a certain video.

It is, in a way, a form of censorship.

I’m not sure if an entity which advocates for corporate entities is behind this.

I don’t care for dislikes because it could be really upsetting to kids or depressed people to receive them.

Not liking a video should be enough IMO.

It ain’t rocket science. If you don’t like someone’s YouTube channel don’t watch it: problem solved.
Likewise, if you don’t like someone’s posts on W.P. Don’t read them.
It’s self-inflicted butthurt if you do.

I feel like a person who posts a video could, he/herself, determine whether he/she wants "dislikes."

I've watched some really good videos, like ones with kittens and other cute animals that are wholesome and naturally stress-reducing. And yet I'd see dislikes for the videos. I'd wonder who would dislike such videos in the first place? Must be by people who love being trolls. That's just gross.

But then again nothing about YouTube makes any sense. They have videos for their Kids Channel that are more disturbing and frightening than any of their videos rated for people 18 and over. They decided one of my videos wasn't suitable for people under 18 because it showed two male Sims kissing. Yeah, apparently kids shouldn't know people of the same sex can be attracted to each other until they're 18 if not any older.

What's a "Sims?"

I don't bother with the crap on YouTube. I read and listen to mostly travel vlogs.

I still think it makes no sense to leave the link to the dislike option and disable it. Oh, well.

I've watched social media censorship get worse and worse for years, but nobody here seems to get what I'm talking about.

The Sims is a video game series where you can create simulated families who go about everyday lives. It is one of the best-selling video game series of all time, being particularly popular among people who don't enjoy "action" games.

Individual characters in the game are "a Sim", with the plural being "Sims".
