I have definitely noticed change in our climate. It has happened for decades, this is nothing new. Back in my old hometown in Montana, they would get like 5 feet of snow when my dad was a kid. Now they get about a foot or two. They still get lot of snow because it sticks and stays and they have snow plows so everyone still goes to work in it. Even people who live out in countries have snow plows and ones without have neighbors that plow their drive way or they call someone to do. My uncle did it every year as a hobby. He plowed country roads and drive ways.

Here in Portland we got heatwaves that would last about a week. As a kid we had cooler weather up into the 80s. Now we get heatwaves up into the 90's and 100's and it seems to be more common now every summer. I have noticed the same with snow. We still get a lot less than Montana but I started to think we need to get snow plows because this is happening every year now and the snow is sticking longer and the city can't be shut down for a week. Our light rails need to do something about their tracks so their switches won't freeze and the wires. They did install heaters in them because it cost them money from snow when they had to use shuttles.

Weather patterns change and so do climates and they always had. Look at ice age.

I feel since heatwaves are getting more common here in Portland every summer, it's time more people invest in a AC. They have wall units and portable ones. The city here should pass a law telling landlords that they need to provide AC for their tenants or allow them to use one. But we don't need to be reminded every year to drink lots of water, are we really that stupid and forgetful? This happens every year, we should know already to drink more water when it's hot.

UK records show in the 1700's they had a whole year of continual rain. Crops failed. Floods etc. Every 400 years we have had a big tsunami hitting our sourh west coasts. Yet despite the past history we build on the shores. The last one was in 1607 and many died throughout Wales and the south of England.

During the early 1980's, here in south Wales, one year we had such deep snow that our forces could only see the locations of farms buried below due to the holes left that wet down to the house chimneys. I worked with two of the ex military people (Train drivers) who were called out during that time, and one was dropped down these "Snow holes" to reach the farms below. Another had the job to clear the motorway of snow so that at least some supplies could come through. He said he kept feeling a repeated bump on the ploughing machine he was using. He did not know but he had ripped up a good 25 to 30 miles of cats eyes.

About 12 to 14 years ago we had a couple of weeks which were so cold that everywhere I went I was wearing two pairs of trousers and it wasn't enough.

I have noticed this scaremongering going on as well. I remember the 1970's where every summer was blazing hot and every winter was guaranteed snow and despite the high temperatures we were told we were going into an ice age and scientists were trying to come up with ideas and ways to prevent this. Shows that they are all just guessing and no one really knows what is happening, and our scientific efforts and experiments are far more likely to cause climate change than by any other means!

Nonsense. Think critically about this rather than just regurgitating what you’ve been fed. Look up temperature records for the 70s. Today was the third hottest day since records began. The ten hottest years in the UK since 1884 have all been since 2002. On a global scale, the eight hottest years on record have been the last eight.

The first step I would recommend for anyone who wants to actually think about the climate is to read the IPCC’s AR6: https://www.ipcc.ch/report/sixth-assess ... -group-ii/

That will present you with the evidence which you can then assess for yourself. That is what someone who is interested in critical thinking and coming to intelligent conclusions would do, rather than just jumping to conclusions.

The single surest sign that someone is brainwashed is them thinking that global warming is “scaremongering”. That’s not to say that there is never climate scaremongering, because there is, but no rational assessment of the evidence would ever lead someone to conclude that it isn’t happening, that climate scientists are guessing, or that action to mitigate climate change is generally going to make it worse.

In regards to politics or any other subject in recent times ask yourself this: "Are my porsonal oppinions in regard tonpolitics or any other recent subject a carbon copy of the views being portrayed on the news?"

Each time you go to reply to a thread and you have an oppinion take that oppinion as a perfect example to ask yourself the above question and if your oppinion mirrors the views of the news items that you watch start to look at other oppinions that one may have to see if they also mirror the oppinions of the newscasters, and if they do, then alarm bells should ring within you because you will realized how brainwashed you have become. (The name "Newscaster" should ring alarm bells anyway if one knows anything much about the spiritual aspects of such things).

I want you all to have your own oppinions and yes, sometimes one will share oppinions and sometimes not, but what I don't want any of you to be is brainwashed.

Signs of brainwashing are that ones own oppinions directly mirror the oppinions of the media or whoever you are following that is causing the brainwashing effect.
Other signs include an agressiveness towards those who share different oppinions than ones own (Another big warning bell should be going off with this one!) and one is not even willing to examine or compare other oppinions on whatever subject is being explored.

Sorry I'm late. No I don't think I'm brainwashed by the media, though they might be slipping the occasional assumption past the goalie here and there. Dad was very skeptical about what the papers said and I soon began to see the validity of his position. Later on I became interested in left-wing & Anarchist politics, and read a few books about bias and propaganda in the media. That helped me to spot the BS. It soon became so obvious that I stopped reading newspapers except to find out what depths they'll sink to in order to keep people scared of socialism. Of course a lot of the matter-of-fact information in there is valid enough - if they say we're at war with the Ukraine, they're probably not lying.

But like I say, they might get the occasional porkie past my critical faculty. The hardest ones to spot are the ones where I don't see alternative versions of the thing, where assumptions get purchase in me simply because I didn't think to ask myself "did it really happen like that?" Although I'm left-leaning, I don't read socialist stuff without wondering if they're being entirely honest with me. I don't read it to reinforce my own prejudices. And I see the same kind of thing going on in the Morning Star, which is like the Express in reverse.

Global warming? I didn't find out about that from the media. I found out about it from hippies in the 1970s. I wasn't sure they were right, and I'm still not 100% sure now, but it's hard to see how a conspiracy could be behind it. Somebody would have spilled the beans by now. And my home town has just been through a record heatwave. Doesn't prove it, but if I had to guess I'd say we're very likely in trouble. In a sense I don't even care if it is a conspiracy if it damps down all this wasteful consumerism that's going on and imposes more wholesome values on society. Not that I'm expecting that to happen, any more than I expected Covid would force us to re-think our values and reject the current system. Logically either problem might have led to such a thing, but I don't think business interests will ever get the point, being too bogged down with a pre-Covid, pre-global-warming mindset.

So, can we even determine which two days are being compared? The warmer map would be disturbing if it's much earlier in the year but since no information is given it's clear this is just meant to fuel ignorant circle jerks among people who are already convinced climate change isn't occurring or isn't a worthwhile issue.

Found a fact check for you:

https://www.reuters.com/article/factche ... SL1N2Z30KX

But this has just raised more questions. First image is from early August 2003 when the recently broken Faversham temperature record was set. Someone from the Met office and the BBC piped up to say that the colour change was done to accommodate people with colour blindness in 2017. The helpful folks on twitter then informed him that the "Death Valley" map was in fact from 2016 and the colours used are actually useless for the most common form of colour blindness. My BS meter is tingling but your mileage may vary...

The fact is: it's never been 40 Celsius in the UK----until July 19th.

To put this in perspective: NYC, which is, on average, about 5C Celsius hotter than London in the summer, hasn't had a 40 Celsius reading since 1977, 45 years ago.

The only "good" thing about the heat is that it was a dry heat; the dew point was around 10C. Yesterday, it was about 35C in NYC, with a 22C dew point.

Disproving global warming would require much more than one piece of questionable evidence. There can be anomalous days of highs and lows. What matters is the overall trend.
