And in a similar vein about the middle east.

Who is profiting off these anime, manga, and video games? If they are being sold by a Japanese company, or even by an American company hiring or buying from Japanese artists, then it's not appropriation.

I think you're missing my point. I'm not the one claiming it's cultural appropriation for Americans to enjoy Japanese entertainment.

The internet's full of grifters for sure. You have to either have some amount of subject matter expertise, know how to sift the experts out of the noise, or be interested enough to put your wading boots on and keep em on for a long time - esotericism / occultism / spirituality is probably worse than global warming in that regard.

I think you're right. And where I live there simply is no easy access to this kind of stuff outside of the internet. :(

My point is to suggest things you could say back to these people, who are apparently mis-using the concept of cultural appropriation.

You know, I bumped into a poem I wrote back in 2018 that might be relevant here:

Quote:
No Man's Land

You're in uncharted territory.
We can't tell you who you are or where you're going.
We can't tell you what will be approved of or not approved of.
You're on your own.
With each passing year you'll feel your own vitality modulate a bit.
Everyone feels it.
No one really knows what it is or how to explain it
It just sort of happens as such.
We just do, on our own, minding our own psychosis and personal swarm of gnats and stinging thoughts.
Some have roles they're forced into by family
Some have roles they're thrust into by friends
Some have roles thrust upon them by city or country
Still there's a remainder that no one can peg, judge, nor really direct.
They can't tell you if you're doing it right
They can't tell if you're doing it wrong
If you're doing it right the reward is future and uncertain
If you're doing it wrong the penalty equally future and uncertain
They can only ever vaguely see what's going on
One might look to a God but that God remains silent.
We know there's a cosmic light illuminating the works
But it refuses to tell us where we are or where we're headed
The best we can gather of it's will is in the faces of those around us.
And in the way nature stacks the cards for or against us.
It's as if we, the tides, and what happens around us and to us is its language.
Our major events in history are it's verbs and we are its nouns.
Even there a lot of us are stuck.
There's no map, there's no where to go
All too often God turns us toward the liquor or porn store.
Does God loath himself or herself?
That I'd like to know.

For me they're like hairballs - sometimes something's nagging to get out, other times not.

They say that religion is finnished in the industrialized world. Done. That seems to be true in western Europe, and in Canada. But the US seems to be an outlier among industrialized countries where religion seems to still be going strong.

However upon close examination what the US actually has nowadays is not religion, but a parody of religion.

Thats what some say.

When you see clips like this you start to agree:

https://youtu.be/OSIrQBGfUtw?list=RDCMUC2AYHhMevDnEXun_PJqJn6Q

Kenneth Copeland creeps out both the religious and the secular.

In contrast Joel Osteen is very soothing and calm in his "prosperity preaching". You cant even call "prosperity gospel" because he never even mentions the Gospels in his 'sermons'. Osteen is rightly branded by both the religious and the secular alike for being a secular "motivational speaker" posing as a minister who never even mentions the Bible, or sin. He ought to be paying Taxes on the zillions he makes off his megachurch.

Maybe the only reason he's losing relevance lately is because the GOP feels they no longer need him? They're moving on to even more dangerous whackjobs like DeSantis.

I'm sure you are correct. Same goes for our politicians. Boris Johnson was the funny, fluffy, 'attractive'??? face of the right wing, set up to lure people in. We have Russian/KGB oligarchs involved with our politics, also a very sinister group called the European Research Group who work at 55 Tufton Street. Please Google those, they are very influential and frightening. Also look up Evgeny Lebedev and his father, the KGB agent. Why are KGB agents in our House of Lords??

Not to mention the right wing media run by billionaire Rupert Murdoch and a few other billionaires.

It is all very sinister and heading down a very dark road.

Yes, there's not much religion going on in Britain for sure. Most people aren't religious. Well not Christian anyway, I think other religions like Judaism and Islam are more widespread, however most people aren't extreme followers. We definitely don't allow preachers of hate speech to get any airtime or even street time.
