Probably not

For Canadians, if Trump follows through on the 51st State threat, you can add more people to this list.

Only after they finish pacifying Canada.

They will never finish pacifying Canada.

I hope you are right for everyone here.

The gun buy back is supposed to happen later on in the year. Wonder what happens after that is accomplished.

They're not asking for your consent. Your probably already on it.

I literally said that I was worried about going and getting diagnosed for autism because I was afraid of being put on a list, and look at that - that's exactly what would happen. Being diagnosed has been pushed off into the future for me, despite my plans. But that's good because my plans were leading me to potential harm and I should lay low.

For those here who don't have that luxury, I am so sorry. Everything is so scary right now and I hope dearly that things don't turn for the worst case scenario that many of us fear.

Then we've got a great case for a class action suit, as it's a clear HIPPA violation.

Of course. Because all the other law suits have been sooooooo effective.

They kind of have, they've drug this out a lot and we still don't know that SCOTUS is going to have the stones to keep co-signing on this insanity. Hitler was able to disassemble the government in less than 2 months if I remember correctly. Sure, this doesn't mean that it will keep on working, but it's nearly May and 8 months from now we'll be into 2026 and the mid-term elections.

It's a bit too soon to really know what's going to happen as more and more people get angry about all of this and keep making it known to their reps and senators that this isn't acceptable.

What percentage of Canadians guns do you think will be bought back under such a program? A few percent of illegally owned firearms and a negligible amount of non-functionally legally owned firearms is my guess.

I am very worried, because potential employers could use the registry to rule us out for employment, if they're able to access it.

We could have PhDs in computer science or nuclear physics, but we would only be good for menial, low-wage labor because all they see is our autism.

Same here. I was in the middle of applying for SSI, but I think I'm done now.
Saw a doctor who said I appear strong enough to work (ha!), and that I should pursue the neurological side of disability, and no thanks. Not now.
Friends and family were encouraging me to "try anyway, you never know".

Yeah, well, now we know that history is repeating itself.

Our son's school was reaching out to us to discuss finding accommodations for his ASD, and now we're not sure we'd be comfortable if they suggested getting him diagnosed.
Which sucks, because I never had any kind of support when I was a kid, and I was looking forward to him getting some...and now we're not sure if it's safe for him.

How are they going to know who is diagnosed?

How indeed! That's what's so scary! Imagine the Trump government forcing their way into private medical records.

This post will address a number of issues.

Round us up?
As has been pointed we are already on various government lists. The problem is how these lists are used, specifically how these people are going to use this list. They give all indications it will be used for nefarious purposes. I don’t think it will be used to round all of us up but to “prove” “people with autism” are NT’s who have been poisoned. That said since the administration is already rounding up people with opinions they do not like I can’t completely rule out they will try to round us up. I said try to because the registry will be legally challenged, never mind any attempt to round us up. They should be ruled unconstitutional but with this SCOTUS who knows.

Stigmas
I have no doubt that what has been going on will embolden or further embolden those who have toxic opinions of us. That is bad enough coming from friends and family but if it is your clinician this will have consequences for how you are diagnosed and treated. I do not expect a complete return to the days when autism as horror show opinion was ubiquitous. As they say “The genie is out of the bottle”. What I am unsure of how much all of this will effect those who have no opinion or weak opinions of autism

Effect on autistics and people wondering if they are autistic
While the future is uncertain the fear is happening and having negative consequences.

We are already seeing people dropping plans to get a professional diagnosis. If they needed accommodations or benefits they won’t be getting them now. Some people need professional validation for their suspicions and to start to get rid of thoughts that they are fragile or an attention seeker. That won't be happening now.

We have had many threads about the mental health dangers of masking. People that don’t mask are going to start as those that do mask are going to double and triple down on it resulting in more severe mental breakdowns that come sooner.
