I am currently taking courses in Philosophy online and I am finding them great fun. I had never studied philosophy before this, although I find I have my own opinion on all the major questions from previous reflection. But the great thing about these courses is the online discussions - in a classroom I would be appalling at discussing things. I think too slowly and it takes too much time to absorb spoken information. Also I would be too unconfident to say what I think as I would imagine people ridiculing it. However, online I have no such problems whatsoever. I can say what I want and I have the time to reflect (although often i find I start writing and I think what I want to say immediately). And I have found that I am not a passive no-opinion person, but someone who can argue and think of often quite different arguments from the others.
It's great fun, I would really recommend any of you interested in philosophy to take an online course (I am with Oxford University).

For anyone interested, the site I use is the following

http://onlinecourses.conted.ox.ac.uk/su ... osophy.php

I took the Philosophy gym first (great fun) and am now doing metaphysics. It costs 150 pounds for those in the EU, but I think costs more for those outside of the EU. I have heard of other UK universities offering online philosophy courses too, which cost less than these.

As a part of my course load, I teach two courses in sociology online each semester. However, we also offer distance learning courses in philosophy:
