Reading some of Plato and Cicero, I think Stoicism is better.

Here are some definitions from Random House:

Stoicism:
1. a systematic philosophy, dating from around 300 B.C.,that held the principles of logical thought to reflect a cosmic reason instantiated in nature.
2. (l.c.) conduct conforming to the precepts of the Stoics, as repression of emotion and indifference to pleasure or pain.

Epicureanism:
1. the philosophical system or doctrine of Epicurus, holding that the external world is a series of fortuitous combinations of atoms and that the highest good is pleasure, interpreted as freedom from disturbance or pain.
2. (l.c.) epicurean indulgence or habits.

Epicurean.

Quote:
Epicurus believed that the greatest good was to seek modest pleasures in order to attain a state of tranquility and freedom from fear (ataraxia) as well as absence of bodily pain (aponia) through knowledge of the workings of the world and the limits of our desires.

Epicureanism. It has many similarities with Buddhism, the Anglo-American empiricist tradition and modern Secular Humanism. It is atheistic in the modern sense of the term (they thought gods were powerful material beings that lived in space and ignored Earth and other inhabited worlds, not supernatural entities) and materialistic. They tended towards egalitarianism and Epicurus advocated a form of the Golden Rule.

The Stoics were arrogant cocks. The philosophy is narcissistic by nature, besides.

Now, if I wanted to have an Epicurean lifestyle, I'd move into a nice suburb, have three kids, and name them Bob, Luke, and Tiffany. It doesn't sound like a bad deal. I can taste the barbeque now. The Epicureans advocated a life of happy contentment. I must say it sounds tempting, my friend, but no.

I, sir, am a noxious Pyrrhonist who loves to spoil everyone else's fun! I get the cookie!

Well, I'd agree with epicurianism moreso than stoicism, however, I am not so materialistic either.... And I'd call myself more of a agnostic or secular theist than anything.
