It didn't backfire, it simply reminded me that Aspies are not
a typical representation of the populace at large in this way.

No, it really does appear that it backfired. I mean, you give a poll, come up with the results exactly opposite of what you were basically fishing for, then say the poll was fundamentally flawed. No wonder you don't understand science.

In Ragtime's defense (sort of), this poll doesn't really prove anything, but I'm about 99.9% sure that if this poll went as Ragtime wanted it to go, he'd be talking up a shitstorm.

And btw, taxes are only one issue. As a productive member of society and a liberal, I'd much rather pay higher taxes and....

wait for it...

actually get useful services for them that I'd otherwise have to pay for, that would result in me keeping a higher percentage of my income for myself despite paying higher taxes.

I know it's unheard of in the US to propose such a complicated idea to the populace, but they're making it work pretty well in places like Canada and Europe.

it'd be nice if my money didn't go to the rampant corporatism that's going on now and crony-ism within picking companies for government contracts. i'm sure that money could be used elsewheres.

not to mention all the money wasted on abstinence-based sex ed programs that are all religious in nature and a majority are christian. i really appreciate that one as an atheist.

^ Agreed, and very well stated!
(Phagocyte, Obres, skafather84)

The fact is that Ragtime's mindset, and his need to utterly control information and then skew its meaning, is a trait shared by too many in this country, and it's what's gotten us into the mess we're in now.

There's no room for real discussion when you're dealing, not with an actual thinking human being, but with a mindless waterspout of empty rhetoric.

which is why i go straight for beratement. attempting to deal with such people on an equal plane accomplishes little to nothing and while there are serious debates and serious discussions...when it's just ignorance and willful ignorance via hubris....insult the bastard till they cry and be ready to fight. it's all they know and maybe if they get a whoppin (psychological and/or physical), they might start to straighten out since that's all they seem to comprehend.

it's sad that some people are so beyond critical thought that negative reenforcement is the only semi-viable option.

But of course! However, if the results showed the opposite then it would be an accurate - no wait - fair and balanced portrayal of lazy, conniving, Liberal America.

Dude, everyone can plainly see what you were trying to do. Frankly it's embarrassing and immature. Not that my hippie jokes weren't, but then again I'm not the one claiming the moral high ground.

Actually, the hippie jokes were on much higher ground than Rags's carefully crafted cesspit

No poll "backfires". All of them teach us something.
And, as far as my supposedly not understanding science,
I'm the only one in the evolution threads
who referred to the scientific method.
And I didn't stop there.
Since people were seemingly believing that "science" means "shouting down dissenters",
I quoted the scientific method for them.
How much more scientific can one get
than to insist that we all stick by the scientific method, hmmm?

Contradiction in terms.
Most basically, all functioning requires conservative thinking
(i.e., the employment of logic),
even for those who are outwardly politically liberal.

Reeely? In all the many threads on non-scientific creationism, only you were the champion of the scientific method?
