It's entirely possible that this is all a computer simulation. Why? Because I can't prove it isn't. Also, I could really be nothing but a brain in a vat, receiving electrical stimulation. Am I really just a brain in a vat? I don't know. I can't disprove that, either.

God is less reasonable than aliens or the Matrix? Why?

I don't know about the Matrix, which I see honestly as extremely improbable, maybe at the same level of improbability that a God exists, but abiogenesis occurring on some of the billions upon trillions of planets throughout the Universe that have similar conditions to our planet or other suitable conditions does not seem all that improbable to me at all. So yeah, in quite a few areas there's probably aliens or extraterrestrial life. Wouldn't you agree?

Definitely agree. In all the Infinite Universe, in all of Time, Space and Size, there must be other intelligent life. I mean, if the universe is infinitely small as well as infinitely big ...

And, yes, I have to admit the possibility that God is Himself an alien. Of sorts. This universe of ours could very be well nothing but a single atom of a blade of grass on someone's front lawn.

(I haven't actually argued for a Matrix universe, but I just pointed out that it could very well be a very complex computer simulation, but I was just pointing it out, I didn't expect anyone to take it seriously. Oh well. )

I could answer that, but it would take quite a bit of time. Maybe a topic for another thread?

You must find your tower. :jocolor:

Check out M-theory or string theory. You might find it interesting

Slowmutant, have you ever considered deism? I am an atheist with slight touches of it, I would readily believe in a god who was merely one of many species, who perhaps created our world and possibly us or set off evolution but then either left or died and perhaps in the universe there is both a combonation of intelligent design by superior aliens using science and also natural evolution, that's a theory I particularly find both logical and possible rather than god made everything, god didn't need to be made, god always existed.

Baptized Catholic, raised Episcopalian.

Now I'm pretty much apathetic, and Jewish or pagan on some days.

I believe origins of all religions should be studied, myself i have limited this to western ones.

About what i actualy believe is..i follow the nordic/proto-germanic gods as a wierd form of ancester worship. I believe they existed, i do not believe they were true gods in the main definition of the word.

I believe that God exists without a doubt (how else are we so conveniently able to survive on this planet?) but as far as religion goes, I'm having my doubts. I was raised as a Southern Baptist but as I grew older I began to see all kinds of things that most of them refuse to see, like bigotry and hypocrisy. They preach God's love yet they hate anyone who believes differently. I believe that what someone believes is their own business and no one has any business to chastise them or force their beliefs onto them. Like I said, I believe in God but I don't give a damn whether you do or not so just leave me the f**k alone about it. Not to be mean or anything but that's my attitude about it.

Interesting...do you believe they were deified humans, then? Euhemerism, I believe that's called. I'd read somewhere that there were people who believed that Odhinn, at least, might have been a deification of an ancient Norse shaman, but I'd never met anyone who actually thought that was the case (and I've known quite a few Norse pagans).
