It would be quite a different world if India and China made all the decisions. Can you imagine the whole world under Chinese Communism? Or the Hindu caste system?

It would be a horror beyond all imagining.

Majory Rule =/= Justice (obvious?)

Majority Rule = Majority Rule (universal)

Justice = Justice (irreducible & universal)

I can know what justice is the same way I know what a cute baby looks like or why a sunset is beautiful.

In other words, it is a matter of opinion.

Well, if it is instinct, then justice is a matter of genetics. If it is that, then why isn't it arbitrary? After all, then people's view of justice would just be a matter of their breeding. Are the damned merely ill-bred?

Do you consider yourself ill-bred?

To NobelCynic, JoJerome, & Orwell,

I know we can’t agree that objective justice (as I’ve described it) can be shown to exist. I assume you will agree that it cannot be shown not to exist? If so, can we then agree that almost the whole human race assumes that objective justice exists? – and that this assumption is necessary to the functioning of societies?

Where does our notion of justice come from? I'm talking about what we've codified and put into the law books. Does it come from the same place as music and art?

Rules are made to keep stupid people in line.

That is why there are so many rules.

Rules are meant to keep everyone in line, but some people like to the rules don't apply to them. Some people think they're too rich for rules, too smart, too beautiful.

Some people lack common sense and don't mind hurting people to get ahead.
Those are the people who need rules. Morality is really subjective. If a person truly worked on himself/herself to try to achieve their ideals, other people should not have the right to place judgments and rules to restrict this person's development. As it is unfortunately, the so called stupid people follow rules and are not guided by their own moral compass.

What kind of personal development? And why would other place judgements and rules on this personal development if it weren't immoral or illegal or antisocial in some way?
