I hope this doesn't lead to a nuclear war. Surely Putin isn't that much of a homicidal maniac.

Probably time for compromise. NATO knew full well for a long, long time it would irritate Russia if they shoved bases and troops so close to them.

NATO hardly shoved membership on Russia's neighbors. Rather, countries like Poland and Ukraine historically have fear of Russian expansion. And as Putin has made it clear, he does not recognize Ukraine as a separate country, but as a part of Russia, regardless of what Ukrainians think.

you're both right. We promised old Gorby that we wouldnt expand NATO to his borders.

The trouble is that all of the nations ON Russia's border (except Belarus) fear Russia, and they all immediately banged on the door of NATO and demanded to be allowed in.

So there in lies the rub.

Interesting to see how seriously the threat of "Severe Consequences" made in December was taken, given Mr Biden was "absolutely confident" that Mr Putin got the message...

As a side note, if what was said is to be believed, troops would only be deployed if Nato become involved in combat actions.

Putin hasn't made a move yet, so it's impossible to say if Biden's failed.
Were this Trump, he'd be justifying Putin's aggression.

And yet he has only been aggressive either before, or after, Mr Trump was President, but not during that time.

Looked at objectively, you'd expect Mr Putin to be more aggressive when he believed he would face less risk\pushback for his actions (and so could more easily get what he wants), than when he would expect to face more risk\pushback for those actions(and so have a harder time getting what he wants)...

Or, in simpler terms: Does a bully cause problems for those who would be likely to stand up to them, or to those they see as weaker than them\more likely to abide by the bully's directions?

Russia was becoming involved in Syria in the Trump years, and had put bounties on the heads of American service men and women. Trump defended his pal.

There was never any conclusive evidence that Russia put bounties on American soldiers.

What Putin thinks is best for him includes leaving a trail of corpses in his wake.
Seriously, what is this worship of Putin at the detriment of our own President by the right?
