Fitness guru Jack LaLanne dies at 96

Quote:
(CNN) -- American fitness guru Jack LaLanne died Sunday afternoon at his home in Morro Bay, California, according to his long-time agent, Rick Hersh. He was 96.

The cause, said Hersh, was respiratory failure due to pneumonia. LaLanne had been ill for the past week. His wife, Elaine, was at his side, along with his family and friends, Hersh said. No funeral arrangements were announced, but his agent said plans were being made.

LaLanne spent decades talking about the healthful benefits of exercise and fitness. He opened his own health spa in California in 1936, years before the fitness craze swept the United States. LaLanne even designed the world's first leg-extension machine, along with several other pieces of fitness equipment now standard in the fitness industry.....

I remember his fitness show on weekday morning TV as a kid in the early to mid 1960s, the Cold War was in full swing and physical fitness
was the watch-word.

He will be missed.

Jack was a lot of fun to watch.

R.I.P. Jack, and keep the Angels moving and fit.

He always said dying would ruin his reputation...

The guy has lost all credibility with me.

Where's Richard Simmons?

Meh, I guess living to 96 isn't too bad.

I loved watching Jack as a kid. He was a real inspiration to me. And, he had the coolest dog ever!

And in good health until almost to the end? You should only have that blessing.

I 'm a little surprised that he died. The way he was taking care of himself, I thought he would easily live past 100; maybe 110. I did buy a power/super juicer at bed, bath, & beyond. I think he's well known for them too. I was watching the power juicer paid programming/infomercials around the time I got my power juicer.

the late george burns lived to 100, despite decades of smoking and drinking. some people have protective genes that make them bulletproof. i think jack's genes also were probably top-notch. most other people can only weakly try to copy what jack did, and hope for the best. i suspect for many, no matter what they do, it won't make much of a longevity difference, though the quality of their health during what years they do live, will be somewhat improved.

Money cannot buy you health topic

He will always be an inspiration for seniors.

It is a shame that his children's show from the 70s was not as well received as it could be.

RIP and stay FIT. 8)
