I just learned this morning that former professional wrestler Randy Poffo, otherwise known as the Macho Man Randy Savage, had died after having a heart attack while driving on the freeway with his wife. His wife, who he had married a year ago, recieved only minor injuries resulting from the crash, but Randy died - I believe- on the way to the hospital. :(
As a wrestling fan, all I have to say is, thanks for all the fond and fun memories, Randy.
That, and Snap In to A Slim Jim! 8)

Errrrrr, that wife could be Elizabeth, or did he marry another one?

I used to watch pro wrestling religiously from 1997 to 2010, but I watched a bunch of old matches during that time. The matches and promos Savage put on were just absolute genus. I'm taking the news of his death pretty hard right now since he was such a pivotal part of the WWF in the 80s and 90s. I think one analogy I saw elsewhere summed it up best: if Hulk Hogan was Babe Ruth, then Randy Savage was Lou Gehrig.

RIP, Macho Man. You're in a better place now even though us wrestling fans down here will miss you dearly.

He remarried last year. Sadly, Elizabeth died in 2003, about 11 years after she and Randy called it quits.

One of the very best matches I had ever seen in person was years and years ago, live in Spokane, where Randy Savage had a match with Rowdy Roddy Piper. At one point, Savage had leaped off the top ring post - - only to get a fist in his gut from Roddy. In the end, Savage had one the match by a count out, but had high tailed it back to the dressing rooms, title intact. Those two guys were ring geniuses. Piper has been fighting lymphoma for some time, and I fear we may be posting his obituary sometime sooner or later.

I used to eat Slim Jims all the time thanks to the Macho Man. I only know him from WCW, but he was great there as well.

He pretty much played the same character in the WWF/WWE as he did in the WCW.

I've hardly watched wrestling at all but I LOVE Macho Man. As soon as I heard about his death I got myself a bottle of Jim Beam and poured out a shot for him.

Wherever you go - he'll be with you.

My father and I used to go to live wrestling shows in the Eighties. One of the most entertaining matches I ever watched was Savage vs. the Honky Tonk Man. I don't think anyone, including Hulk Hogan, could work a crowd better than Macho. We all wanted him to beat up that stupid Honky Tonk Man so badly. But somehow HTM kept slipping free and running away. What frustration! It was really fun.

Farewell, Macho.
