what kind of vet charges that much for a surgery

maybe its because my family always goes to a country vet that spends most his time with farm animals like cows and horses. A surgery like that wouldn't cost more than 300$ from him. hes also very honest about when its time to put the animal down.
it makes me mad to see vets take advantage of people like that. theres no reason for that high of a price. the supply's for the surgery are no more than 150$, theres no big lawsuits looming over the vet if things go wrong, all that the vet is really charging is his or her time to do it. all they are doing is catching someone in a rock and a hard place then robbing them blind
its down right wrong
