Quote:
Fearing for his life, a New York cop pulled a gun on a group of teens having a snowball fight.
“Don’t f*****g move, guys,” the New Rochelle police officer can be heard on video as he points his gun at the youths, who are down on their knees with their hands in the air.
The cop proceeds to pat each of the youths down with one hand while holding the gun, continually telling them not to move.
Once the officer realized the fear was all in his head, he released the teens with no charges.

The officer had initially responded to a “disturbance,” according to Raw Story.

Yes it appears the cops certainly needed their guns out for that...huge threat to their safety.

Maybe people who want safe jobs should not become cops...might cut down on the responding to non-threats as if it's a violent crime.

What did he pat them down for? Was he worried about a possible concealed snowball?

Geeze....you can't even enjoy a snowball fight without worrying about the cops, anymore.

Maybe they should recruit cops from places that have actual gun cultures, so they'll understand how to treat a weapon properly?

My theory?
Someone called the cops over the snowball fight, and stated or implied that one of the kids "might" have a gun, in order to get a more expedient police response.

The snowballs are scary enough, but they were also armed with the concrete sidewalk. That cop was in mortal danger, he could have shot them all legitimately.

I can't think of any reason for someone to call the cops over a snowball fight.

^^You'd be surprised.
"These damn kids are making noise on my street/outside my house. How do I stop them?!? I know, I'll call the cops."

Yep, that is certainly a possibility I had not thought of. There are people that will call the cops for anything.

Is it wrong that I believe that cops shouldn't carry guns on their persons? Maybe have it their car but on their hip is too much for most to resist it seems. If you're a chickenshit then you should get fired on the spot if you're a cop, the nature of your job is that you fear for your life so we don't have to so there is obviously something very wrong when you have to fear for your life just being around these hair triggered cops.

Well at first glance the cop waving a gun around while dealing with a snowball fight is rather over the top, however if someone was having their property bombarded with snowballs they might well call the police.

If someone has made a false claim that the snowballers had guns then I think that they should be in trouble for filing a false police report or wasting police time

These people should be fined for making frivolous police calls. This is taxpayer's money, the police not an unlimited resource.

I think they could do jail time.
