As a child, I think eating was my stim. Certain food textures were comforting.

I began to gain weight when I was ~ 8. Later on, I think I developed an eating disorder.

And yet females with anorexia nervosa are more likely to have autism...

Edit: it doesn't surprise me that people with ASD are reported to be more likely to be both over- and under-weight (not at the same time, obviously). Sensory issues can go either way. Also, people suffering stress typically either over- or under-eat, and people with ASD typically suffer a greater than average amount of stress - probably even as infants.

The article lists some theories that I agree with.

Just surprised me how many kids in general are overweight. Doesn't surprise me that more ASD kids are at an unhealthy weight - either under or over - than the general population, though.

Holds true for me. I was the fat kid in a large family of skinny people. My problem was definitely food sensitives and comfort foods, mixed with my parents not having the patience with me to figure out what I liked. It was just easier to throw a corndog into the microwave than it was to find a salad or salad dressing I liked (not that they ate healthy either). Now that I'm adult and I have greater control over my diet, I'm able to figure out healthy food on my own time and prepare them how I like them. Hell, I'm way less active than I was a kid and I'm still at a healthier weight just by eating healthier.

Autism is linked to people who read about Autism.

And who read about Jenny McCarthy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Degre ... evin_Bacon

You mean that planets are "lined" like jackets? Or kitchen drawers?

What is Earth "lined" with?

OH!

You mean "Planetary alignments" (like in astrology).

Never mind.

Growing up I always told that I was "spacey". So that theory actually makes sense. The planets did it. :)

I ended up putting on weight as a kid, lost a lot of it in my tail end of high school, then packed it back on later in my adult years. I'm currently fighting the battle of the bulge.
I tend to think Aspie kids - and adults - tend to lack athleticism, and due to depression tend to eat too much of the wrong sorts of foods. The perfect storm for weight gain.
