Superior leftist liberal insults aside, the locals won the election, to have outside exploitive influences barred, and forever cast out.

It reminds me of several recent cases, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, where locals stopped development, because Elves, Fairies, and other spirit folk had long made use of the area, and disturbing them would bring bad luck.

The Courts held that The Halls of the Fey Folk had a right of peaceful enjoyment of their realm. In all of the history of relations between people and spirits fair words and fair acts had been respected on both sides. The Court held that it should continue so.

All the more reason why education should walk hand-in-hand with democracy.

All the more reason why dictatorial governments fear an educated citizenry - keep the slaves citizens ignorant, and they will believe any lies you tell them.

Nothing can defeat ignorance when those with the opportunity to educate themselves fervently embrace ignorance instead.

Yes, and I would add to the list of offending parties wanting to keep the masses ignorant, unelected powers with their fingers in control over people's lives such as big business, religion, etc.

It works exceptionally well and has for all of human history.

Modern Oligarchies have tweaked it slightly and created the nadar of mass ignorance...and do you know how they did it?!?

They convinced people(who are in fact profoundly ignorant) that they are NOT ignorant.

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free."
~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

and in like manner, None are more hopelessly ignorant than those who falsely believe they are knowledgeable/wise.
