I think the flambuoyant Elton of the 1970's should certainly be considered,

but I'm not so sure about the post-knighted version of this century.

As an actor as well, Bowie had had a small but pivotal role in The Prestige as Nikola Tesla, which I remember fondly.

A few of my many favorites that have not been mentioned much in all the retrospectives.



If I had to pick a favorite

OMG, it suddenly hit me a work tonite that I totally forgot about the "Runt" Todd Rundgren!
Although he has a rather different sound, some of Rundgren's early fashion must have contained some Bowie influence.

The good news is that Todd still seems to be going strong...

He has also toured with the gender-bending New York Dolls, a lesser known glam group that's still active since the 70's.

Blackie Lawless was, for a very short while, part of the New York Dolls.

Todd Rungren is Liv Tyler's stepfather.

He's a true artist.

I wasn't around for his most famous and prolific years , but I really enjoy his music (especially Ziggy-era). I also saw Labyrinth when I was younger; it was strange but I liked it. So RIP Starman.

Subterraneans is something else, one of my favourite tracks of all time, such profound sorrow bleeding through, I think it's about the feeling he was tapping into from east berlin.

Comparing Ziggy Stardust to Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar tour its obvious where he got alot of his ideas. im not knocking Manson, im a big fan, just interesting to see the influence.
