We're beginning to feel the effects of it a little bit right now. constant breeze, fast moving clouds and a little rain from the outer bands. -- It's currently centered off @ Jacksonville.

Luckily this storm is now a Category 2 storm.

Death count so far in Haiti 842 which had a direct hit at category 4 strength.

In Florida the strongest winds stayed just off the coast and the wind direction parralled the coast limiting storm surge.

Currently a Cat 1 storm, and has made landfall just north of McLellanville, SC. Where I am, there has been tropical storm force winds since about 6AM this morning. --I think we may have some more rain here, but for the most part, the rainy side of the storm has passed by.

Hurricane Matthew makes landfall in South Carolina as Category 1

The storm weakened because half of it has been over land for 24-36 hours and it churned up the waters bringing the cooler water to the surface. Hurricanes need warm water.
