Actresses Will Reportedly Wear Black To The Golden Globes In Support Of #MeTo

Quote:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "actresses, including both nominees and presenters will wear black to protest gender inequality and acknowledge the flood of sexual abuse allegations” at the 75th annual Golden Globes, set to take place on Sunday, January 7, 2018. The initiative follows the Screen Actors Guild’s announcement that all of the presenters at the awards show next month will be women.

The latest step in creating more visibility around the industry's ongoing sexual abuse scandals, the move is meant to show solidarity with the survivors of the #MeToo movement, which includes some of Hollywood's biggest leading ladies, like Lupita Nyong'o, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Salma Hayek. It will also be used as an opportunity to give actresses more of a voice on the red carpet; according to The Hollywood Reporter, a recent meeting at the Creative Artists Agency, the world's leading talent agency, discussed how interviewers can push beyond simply asking women "What are you wearing" a conversation that has been in the zeitgeist since the birth of the #AskHerMore Twitter campaign following the 2014 Emmys.

Rose McGowan Slams Actresses Who Plan To Wear Black At Golden Globes: “Your Silence Is The Problem”
Quote:
Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest. YOUR SILENCE is THE problem,” McGowan tweeted. “You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa.”

How about doing something productive instead of symbolic. The Screen Actors Guild should use some of their lucrative funds to buy a lifetime supply of mace for all of their members.

Democrat Ruben Kihuen Won't Seek Re-Election Following Sexual Harassment Allegations
Quote:
ep. Ruben Kihuen, D-Nev., who has been haunted for two weeks by allegations of sexual harassment, said Saturday that he will not seek re-election in 2018.

Kihuen's announcement comes a day after the House Ethics Committee said it has opened an investigation looking into the allegations leveled at the 37-year-old freshman congressman by a former campaign aide.

In a statement, Kihuen reiterated that he had done nothing wrong and said he looked forward to being cleared of any allegations of sexual misconduct.

"I want to state clearly again that I deny the allegations in question. I am committed to fully cooperating with the House Ethics Committee and I look forward to clearing my name.
"Due process and the presumption of innocence are bedrock legal principles which have guided our nation for centuries, and they should not be lost to unsubstantiated hearsay and innuendo.
"However, the allegations that have surfaced would be a distraction from a fair and thorough discussion of the issues in a reelection campaign. Therefore, it is in the best interests of my family and my constituents to complete my term in Congress and not seek reelection."
Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, had been calling for Kihuen to resign since the initial harassment allegations against him were reported by BuzzFeed News on Dec. 1.

In that report, BuzzFeed News said between December 2015 and April 2016, while still a candidate, Kihuen touched a female staffer's thigh without her permission. He also allegedly "propositioned her for dates and sex despite her repeated rejections," according to the BuzzFeed News report.

In recent days, a second woman has come forward, according to The Nevada Independent. The second woman, a lobbyist, said Kihuen made multiple unwanted sexual advances toward her while he was a state senator.

Quote:
A secretive, multi-million dollar taxpayer-funded slush fund used for years to pay off victims of sexual misconduct was tapped to settle a lawsuit against New York Rep. Gregory Meeks.

In March 2006, the Democratic Congressman from Queens settled a lawsuit brought by a female staffer who said that he fired her after she sued one of his donors for sexual harassment, according to court papers.

Notch this down as another western "taboo" ultimately women must give in to "male culture" if they want to rise in today's society

somebody richer than sin who is female, somebody like Oprah, needs to step up to the plate and make a new way that can sidestep this paradigm, somehow. outside of a stiff law with stiff enforcement mechanisms, competition is the only way to make for better behavior.

Yes but Oprah plays the game...remember our heterosexual male dominated elite still dictate who fails and who succeeds

a competitive parallel system is the only thing outside of stiff laws/enforcement, that will encourage better behavior then.

US judge steps down after accusations of sexual misconduct

Quote:
A prominent U.S. appeals court judge announced his retirement Monday days after women alleged he subjected them to inappropriate sexual conduct or comments.

Judge Alex Kozinski of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in a statement that a battle over the accusations would not be good for the judiciary. He said he'll step down, effective immediately.

The Washington Post reported last week that at least 15 women made allegations against Kozinski that go back decades. The allegations include inappropriate touching and lewd comments.

Kozinski said while speaking in a "candid way" with male and female law clerks, "I may not have been mindful enough of the special challenges and pressures that women face in the workplace," the statement said. "It grieves me to learn that I caused any of my clerks to feel uncomfortable; this was never my intent. For this I sincerely apologize."

Leah Litman, a law professor at the University of California, Irvine, told the Post that the judge talked about having just had sex and pinched her side and leg at a restaurant the night before they appeared together on a panel at her school in July.
Christine Miller, a retired U.S. Court of Federal Claims judge, said Kozinski grabbed her breasts during a car ride in 1986 after a legal community function in the Baltimore area. She said it came after she declined his offer to go to a motel and have sex.

A lawyer who was not identified said Kozinski approached her when she was alone at a legal event in Los Angeles in 2008 and kissed her on the lips and gave her a bear hug with no warning.

The newspaper said the woman's husband confirmed the incident and said the couple didn't think they could do anything because of the judge's position.

The Post reported last week that six former clerks or more junior staff members accused Kozinski of inappropriate behavior, including showing them pornography.

Kozinski, 67, was chief judge of the 9th Circuit, the largest federal appeals court circuit in the country, from 2007 to 2014. He is known for his irreverent opinions, and his clerks often win prestigious clerkships at the U.S. Supreme Court.

The 9th Circuit has opened a misconduct inquiry that was transferred Friday to the Judicial Council of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York.

NBC admits it gave producer who accused Chris Matthews of sexual misconduct a payout
Quote:
An MSNBC spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Caller this weekend that a former assistant producer of “Hardball” was paid by the network and then left the company in 1999 after reporting that host Chris Matthews sexually harassed her.

The woman reported to executives at CNBC, the former home of "Hardball," that Matthews made inappropriate comments and jokes about her in front of her colleagues.

The company claims it thoroughly investigated the allegations and acted by formally disciplining Matthews and paying the woman an undisclosed amount as “separation-related compensation.” Some have suggested the sum is $40,000.

She’s since gone on to work in major media companies. MSNBC declined to specify what the comments were, just that they were not propositions per se, but inappropriate nonetheless.

The spokesperson declined to comment on whether Matthews had received other complaints or whether the woman left the network specifically because of Matthews. The host himself has yet to make any comment on the report. Matthews has been the host of "Hardball" for 20 years.

KISS bassist Gene Simmons denies sexual harassment allegations in new lawsuit
Quote:
Gene Simmons is denying allegations of sexual misconduct after a radio and television broadcaster in California filed suit claiming the KISS bassist touched her, made unwanted sexual advances and peppered his responses with sexual innuendos during an interview she was conducting at the opening of a Rock & Brews restaurant.

The lawsuit also alleges that Simmons "forcibly flicked/struck" the woman, identified in the suit as Jane Doe, in the throat during the Nov. 1 interview.

The interview at the San Bernardino restaurant ended early due to Simmons' actions, the suit alleges. The woman posed with Simmons for photos after the interview where Simmons allegedly touched her buttocks, the suit claims.

Simmons took to social media on Sunday to deny all of the allegations alleged in the suit.

"Friends, I intend to defend myself against any alleged charges you may have been reading about in the media," he wrote. "For the record, I did not assault the person making these accusations in the manner alleged in the complaint or harm her in any way. I am conferring with my lawyers with the aim of vigorously countering the allegations. And I look forward to my day in court where the evidence will prove my innocence."

According to the suit, the interview took place on a couch in a designated "green room" where Simmons grabbed the woman's hand and "forcefully placed it on his knee and held it on his knee." The lawsuit states that she immediately removed her hand from his knee.

Throughout the interview, the lawsuit states, Simmons "turned standard interview questions into sexual innuendos, which made plaintiff Doe extremely uncomfortable." She claims that he reached for her hand again and, holding it, made a "cooing sound" and said she "must use lotion," accompanied by another sexual innuendo.

T.J. Miller and ‘Kong’ Director Accused of Harassment by Porn Star Dana DeArmond

Quote:
An adult-film actress has come forward with an accusation against the actor and comedian T.J. Miller, who starred in the HBO series Silicon Valley.

Dana DeArmond, a porn star who has also appeared in several mainstream movies, tweeted Tuesday: “I was harassed by both Tj Miller and the director Jordan Vogt-Roberts shooting for Comedy Central’s Mash Up. I’ve been saying Tj was an as*hole for years. So there you go.”

he allegations by DeArmond came after The Daily Beast reported that an anonymous woman claimed Miller hit and sexually assaulted her while in college.

“He just tried a lot of things without asking me, and at no point asked me if I was all right,” the woman told The Daily Beast. “He choke[d] me, and I kept staring at his face hoping he would see that I was afraid and [that he] would stop… I couldn’t say anything.”

In a statement to The Daily Beast, Miller accused the alleged victim of acting out of spite after his relationship with his now-wife first became public, and “using the current climate to bandwagon.”

The Daily Beast’s Asawin Suebsaeng corroborated details of the alleged victim’s story with five college contemporaries who later testified in student court about hearing the sound of violent thuds or seeing bruises on the woman.

New York Times angers and puzzles some journalists by keeping accused sexual harasser Glenn Thrush

Quote:
The New York Times's decision to keep reporter Glenn Thrush on staff has frustrated some journalists and puzzled others who look askance at one particular aspect of the move — taking Thrush off the White House beat that made him a star and shifting him to another, unspecified assignment.

In a statement, Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet presented Thrush's removal from the White House team as a form of punishment for alleged sexual misconduct, along with a two-month suspension that will end in late January and “training designed to improve his workplace conduct.”

The allegations against Thrush left the Times in an awkward position, since a White House correspondent's job sometimes entails asking about President Trump's treatment of women or his view of harassment accusations against other politicians.

But HLN host S.E. Cupp said the Times made a “colossally uncourageous” call, tweeting that the paper should have either stood by Thrush completely or fired him altogether. And commentary magazine editor John Podhoretz asked why there would be different standards of behavior for different beats — why the Times would permit Thrush to cover, say, the State Department but not the White House.

Heidi N. Moore, a veteran of the Guardian and the Wall Street Journal, suggested that the Times's handling of Thrush could hurt the Pulitzer Prize candidacy of the paper's reporting on sexual misconduct.

Writing in the first person, Vox's editorial director, Laura McGann, recalled a 2012 encounter with Thrush at a bar.

He caught me off-guard, put his hand on my thigh, and suddenly started kissing me,” McGann wrote, adding that three other women “described to me a range of similar experiences, from unwanted groping and kissing to wet kisses out of nowhere to hazy sexual encounters that played out under the influence of alcohol.”

Thrush issued a general apology “to any woman who felt uncomfortable in my presence and for any situation where I behaved inappropriately” but claimed the encounter with McGann was consensual. He also denied spreading rumors about McGann in the newsroom and attributed some of his behavior to an alcohol problem for which he has sought treatment.

3 of Dustin Hoffman’s accusers explain why they decided to talk now
Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — Three women who have accused Dustin Hoffman of sexual misconduct say they are still able to watch his movies because they are able to separate the artist from his actions.

“I wanted to be a method actor like him. I was so impressed with his performances in ‘Midnight Cowboy’ and that sort of thing. So I really wanted to do that kind of work. And so I think I feel, felt just disappointed. I felt disillusioned,” she said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I felt disappointed by somebody who I thought was maybe bigger than life and maybe that’s the lesson is that nobody is bigger than life. You know we’re all humans, but at the same time there’s also right and wrong. You know everyone is accountable.”

Kathryn Rossetter, an actress who shared the stage with Hoffman in the 1984 Broadway revival of “Death of a Salesman,” said she knows she’s going to “take a beating” for waiting to tell her story, but she said the sexual misconduct allegations that toppled Harvey Weinstein gave her the impetus to speak up.

“I was committed to having my whole story published because it’s such a long story of how he was a hero and then it was a bait-and-switch in the aftermath,” she said.

Rossetter saw Hoffman as her hero when he helped her land her first Broadway play, but things quickly soured when she says he started repeatedly groping her backstage. She claims he even tried to penetrate her with his finger. Even after she was finally able to gain the courage to come forward to tell her story, Rossetter still struggles with the shame, especially when she had to break the news to her elderly father.

Anna Graham Hunter was the first woman to come forward. She was a 17-year-old high school senior working as an intern on the film version of “Death of a Salesman” in 1985. She remembers the actor asking her for a foot rub on her first day on the set. She obliged but said it made her uncomfortable. She claims the actor often used sexual language and even grabbed her buttocks several times. Hunter says she struck him in an effort to make it stop.

She carried a sense of guilt with her for years.

“Most of us have stories like this and we deal with it in different ways,” she said.

Thomas was a friend of one of Hoffman’s daughters. When she was 16, she ended up in the actor’s hotel room waiting for her mother to pick her up. She recalls Hoffman leaving the room to take a shower. He returned in a towel and exposed himself, then asked for a foot rub, according to Thomas.

But for years Thomas didn’t consider herself a victim: “I was dismissing it — I was saying, ‘Oh well but he didn’t really do anything bad to me.'”

All of the women still appreciate some of Hoffman’s work — albeit with some caveats. Rossetter said she can watch his films dating from before her alleged assault took place.

“I can watch Dustin’s movies before ‘Death of a Salesman’ and I’ve watched — I’ve seen them after, but I see it differently. I just can’t look at him the same way,” she said. “It’s heartbreaking because he is a good actor.”

Hunter said she still has respect for Hoffman’s talent.

“He is a brilliant, brilliant actor, you know,” she said. “So I don’t want to be robbed of the movies. I love movies, you know, they don’t always love me back.”

Petition for Matt Damon's removal from 'Ocean's 8' gains traction

Quote:
Matt Damon’s comments on sexual harassment in Hollywood has prompted a petition for his cameo to be removed from the mostly female cast of “Ocean’s 8.

A recent tally of the online petition has over 18,000 signatures calling for his removal.

It cited that Damon allegedly tried to squash a New York Times report in 2004 that detailed instances where the now fallen Hollywood mogul exploited his status as a studio executive to harass and assault women, the Agence France-Presse reported.

Damon denied trying to kill the story and claimed he did not know of the allegations against Weinstein, who helped catapult his career, the report said

The actor also came under fire last week, for telling ABC News that there was a "spectrum of behavior" and a "difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?"

"Damon’s inclusion (in the movie) would trivialize the serious nature of the charges against sexual abusers like Weinstein — a show of massive disrespect for the brave women speaking out," the petition read.

If he tried to kill the story he not only should be fired but probably prosecuted.

But his opinion is correct. Equating a pat on the butt with child molestation trivilizes both child molestation and being too handsy. When everything becomes the incarnation of evil nothing is and as a result you get the alt right. If every group is oppressed why not rich white males?
