Nowadays, political discourse is full of lame slap fights between people who are offended by mean words or something.

It's nice to see people talk about something that actually matters for a change.

^^^
Seriously. Nestle has been stealing water from Californians during a drought. Innocent people could have been killed.

Nestle claims that water not a basic human right ... even though human beings literally need water to live.

I just remembered something.

Nestle is so evil, it has become a meme.

Nestle is indeed so evil that 40 years ago - exactly - a global boycott was launched against them. Why? Because they were aggressively marketing infant formula in Third World countries, as being superior to breastfeeding.

Mothers in these countries could not afford the formula in the necessary amounts for their babies; by the time this was recognized as a problem, the mother had usually stopped lactating; the lack of sufficient safe potable water meant that the formula given to the children was usually contaminated with pathogens; the lack of sufficient formula due to poverty meant that the mothers would dilute the formula so much that it could not sustain the baby's life, even if there had been no pathogens.

I was 22 when the boycott was initiated. It continues to the present day.

Rather than putting up one or two links, here is the search that I just ran to refresh my memory on this.
https://www.ixquick.com/do/dsearch?quer ... ge=english

It does not surprise me at all that a company that would manipulate impoverished African mothers into literally starving their own children, as Nestle has done, would drain an American aquifer during a drought without a qualm.

The worst thing about California is the people. I hope I'm not here forever.

My wife has knowingly refused to buy anything from Nestle for some time because of this, so I guess I won't be eating their chocolate.

^^ their chocolate is overrated. Try Neuhaus if you don't already know it, and can find it - as far as I know, they only make chocolate.

It's too bad that boycotting is the best option available to us at this point.

In an ideal world, the cops would shut them down.

I'm surprised more people didn't know about it, honestly.

And try TCHO Chocolate. It's to die for. It's also Fair Trade and the factory is in SF on Embarcadero.

Fair trade = even better. :-) I'll have to look for it (East Coastie here).

Neuhaus is so rich that it's perishable - which is very unusual for chocolates.

You can buy online, and their website has a store locator: https://tcho.com/
I love their flavors. I especially like to shave it over whipped cream on hot chocolate. Yummmmm.

Nestle steals water from Ontario as well. They pay just $3.71 for every MILLION litres of water that they pull out of the ground and then resells it for 24x500ml for $4. They outbid towns for the rights to spring water denying the town the right to their own water supply.
