The only criminal charge filed over the sexual harassment allegations that drove former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo from office was dismissed Friday at prosecutors’ request, clearing what had been seen as the most serious legal threat to the Democrat.
The move had been expected after Albany County prosecutors said they couldn’t prove the case and intended to drop it.
Cuomo, who denied the allegation that he groped an aide in the executive mansion in 2020, didn’t speak during Friday’s short hearing, held with the judge sitting in an Albany courtroom and the lawyers and defendant appearing via videoconference.
As the governor has said, this simply did not happen,” Glavin said in a video statement after the hearing. “Today, reason and the rule of law prevailed. Not politics, rhetoric or mob mentality,” she added.
During the hearing, which lasted only a few minutes and would have been even shorter if not for audio glitches, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer McCanney told the judge prosecutors had reviewed the evidence “and concluded we cannot successfully secure a conviction in this case.”
The local sheriff filed the misdemeanor complaint in October, two months after Cuomo resigned from office.
Albany County District Attorney David Soares said this week that although the aide was credible, and some evidence supported her account, he believed he couldn’t win a conviction.
The aide, Brittany Commisso, said Cuomo slid his hand up her blouse and grabbed her breast when they were alone in an office at the mansion.
Her testimony was among the most damning in a report released in August by Democratic state Attorney General Letitia James that concluded Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women. He said he never touched anyone inappropriately.

Soares has said he was caught by surprise when Sheriff Craig Apple, a fellow Democrat, filed the forcible touching complaint without consulting the prosecutor’s office. Soares called it “potentially defective” and moved to delay Cuomo’s arraignment, originally set for November.
Lot of MAGAs in the NY Democratic party, apparently.

Lets not pretend the republicans didn't want him impeached. Cuomo was a favourite topic for right wing podcasters last year. Looks like a lot of hot air on right wing channels.
At the very least Cuomo resigned in disgrace, strange that Trump never did the same despite having 26 women accusing of Trump of worse. That put's Trump in the same category as Cuomo, Bill Cosby and Trump's good friend Jeffrey Epstein.

Everybody from every political persuasion hated Cuomo. It wasn’t a partisan hate. Cuomo was a classic case of someone who was corrupted by his power. He kept on threatening people, constantly, if he didn’t get his way.
That may be so, but the most vociferous calls for his termination/impeachment came from the republicans. They made a meal of it because of the numerous claims against their own (Brett Kavanaugh and Trump himself).

Remind me again, who actually took Cuomo down?

Gosh...let's see
1. Cuomo resigns as governor to avoid impeachment
2, The biggest faction calling for the impeachment of Cuomo are....drum roll.....the republicans

There is no shortage of left-wing podcasters who condemed him. You should step outside of the left/right paradigm occassionally. It might actually expand your ability to have meaningful exchanges.

Alright, I guess he's a grub regardless of his political colours. His lack of self control was never going to cut it with La feminista in the democrats anyway

The GOP has no power in NY state, he was brought down completely by his own party. This is just another data point in the eternal "cyberdad: ignorant or lying?" saga here, though in this case I'd say both as you're lying about your ignorance. Republicans were no doubt happy to see him fall, but they had nothing to do with said fall, that was more like an internal palace coupe, which you'd know if you actually knew anything about how US politics work.

Agreed that Cuomo was brought down primarily by fellow Democrats. Lots of people, including lots of Democrats, had lots of reasons to hate Cuomo. (One big issue, unrelated to the sexual harassment scandal, was his plan to tear down a significant chunk of midtown Manhattan to make way for a massive expansion of Penn Station.)
But it's NOT true that the GOP has "no power" in NY State. The GOP has plenty of power in the more rural parts of NY State, and to some extent in the NYC suburbs, and even in some parts of NYC, such as Staten Island. Republicans are and have long been a minority in both houses of the state legislature, but there have often been a few DINO State Senators who tended to side with the Republicans. Sometimes there have been enough of the latter to create a de facto Republican majority in the State Senate.
