I hear people calling him "the Brazilian Trump." Reuters below calls him "far-right," which immediately tells me that he in fact is not "far-right" but is instead anti-leftist.

Far-right Bolsonaro wins Brazil presidential race

BRASILIA, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Far-right lawmaker Jair Bolsonaro won Brazil's presidential election on Sunday, riding a wave of frustration over corruption and crime that brought a dramatic swing to the right in the world's fourth-largest democracy.

With 94 percent of ballots counted, Bolsonaro had 56 percent of the votes in the run-off election against left-wing hopeful Fernando Haddad of the Workers Party (PT), who had 44 percent, according to the electoral authority TSE.

"We cannot continue flirting with communism ... We are going to change the destiny of Brazil," Bolsonaro said in an acceptance address in which he vowed to carry out his campaign promises to stamp out corruption after years of leftist rule.

He is indeed far-right, and honestly, I think worst than Trump. I think the "Brazilian Trump" would probably be the ex-mayor of São Paulo and elected governor, João Doria.

Bolsonaro is lawmaker for 27 years, and had a very incipient career apart from scandals of him saying a lot of s**t and bringing all his family to the political career. From saying that the main problem of our military dictatorship was that they didn't killed 30.000 people, instead of just torturing "a few" to getting some money reserved for politicians that didn't have a home in Brasilia and saying that he used this money to have sex.

He is backed up by evangelical churches, conservative agrarian sectors and gun industries. His government plan is very vague and poorly done, during his campaign there was a lot of misunderstanding about what he was proposing. They talked about a flat tax of 20%, online basic education, ending 13th salary, selling all State properties.

He is dumb, and seems quite proud of it – he mentioned several times about how he doesn't understand about economy and he didn't needed to. His campaign was involved in a scandal over millionaire contracts for distributing fake news via WhatsApp.

A lot of his campaign was based on lies, specially some absurd accusations about a campaign stimulating children to be gay or exposing them to pornography. It doesn't exist... but he's insisting on this lie for years, it had increased on homophobia and intolerance, also rejection over Haddad (who is claimed to be the mind behind said "kit gay").

Brazil WASN'T flirting with communism. Worker's Party never was or intended to be communist or had any authoritarian tendency, they were years in power and were very center-left, they made agreements with basically all sectors of society, the country grown a lot during this period. During Dilma Roussef's impeachment and Lula's prison, they accepted it peacefully and recored by legal means. But Bolsonaro played with this nonsense rhetoric of fear of communism – this brought us to dictatorship twice.

All this talk about corruption is a giant BS. His party is by proportion WAY more corrupt than PT, and he was historically connected to PP which is by far the most corrupted party in this country. People have a wrong impression over PT because corruption investigation increased during their rule – thanks to a lot of mechanism created by PT itself – but most of those schemed back by the dictatorship time.

There is so much mora to talk about... I'm really sad and afraid today.

I'm leftist, so you may want to disagree with. But even historical conservative figures, who were against the Worker's Party declared against Bolsonaro. Like right-wing journalist Reinaldo Azevedo, ex-president Fernando Henrique Cardoso, among others. Some important figures in the fight against corruption, Rodrigo Janot and Joaquim Barbosa, who are neutral figures but used to be some form of idols to the right-wing in their discourse anti-corruption, declared support to Haddad, and so on.

The loss here isn't for the left, it is beyond it.

While voting on the impeachment of Dilma Roussef – who was tortured during the dictatorship – he paid homage to Colonel Ustra, whom he points out as his hero. Ustra was the head of tortures in the dictatorship, he is quite well known for being a sadist rapist, using techniques as introducing rats inside a woman vagina. Bolsonaro, himself, had said several times he supports torture.

I want to believe our institutions are strong enough to control him. But he sets an awful example, and has a vague government plan. There was a lot of violence during the campaign, including a few deaths. I'm really worried.

Oh Bolsonaro is without a doubt far-right. That is indisputable and in no way an exaggeration. Of course in this day and age everybody gets that moniker but in his case it is completely justified. But why listen to me when you can take it from the man himself:

“I’m favorable to torture and you know this.” Programa Câmera Aberta, Band RJ, May 23, 1999

“The situation of the country would be better today if the dictatorship had killed more people.” Folha de São Paulo, June 30, 1999.

“There is not the least doubt! I would organize a coup on the same day, the same day!” Bolsonaro in response to the question of what he would do with the National Congress if elected president. Programa Câmera Aberta, Band RJ, May 23, 1999.

“Pinochet should have killed more people.” Veja, December 2, 1998.

“Let’s shoot all the PT (Brazilian Workers' Party) members here in Acre.” Campaign event on September 1, 2018.

“Through the vote you will not change anything in this country, right? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! You will only change, unfortunately, on the day when we begin a civil war here inside. And doing the job that the Military Regime didn’t do: killing thirty thousand! Beginning with FHC [Fernando Henrique Cardoso, president at the time]! … If some innocents die, alright; in every war innocent people die. I would even be happy if I died as long as thirty thousand others died together with me.” Programa Câmera Aberta, Band RJ, May 23, 1999.

And so on and so on. I am very fearful for the people of Brazil and I pray for their safety.

It's a country awash of scandals, launderings, 'dirts' etc, makes the anglosaxones look like little angels.
