Don't know whether to laugh or cry at a mainstream media headline like this. The lack of awareness is just...

The yellow vest protestors are still at it, now turning their attention to the elites who are willing to mobilize large sums to rebuild the cathedral while allowing France’s working class to languish.

"They can mobilize a truckload of cash in one night for Notre Dame," but they can't help the poor, said spokeswoman Ingrid Levasseur.

Only if they redo the colorful painting like it had in middle ages; sadly I don't think they will.

you're not talking about "paintingS".

you're saying that the original cathedral had paint on it? Gaudy paint on the stone itself?

Didn't realize that.

I think all cathedrals were painted and for most people they were the only time they experienced colour in that way.

Pilgrims (who were hugely profitable for the cathedrals) wouldn't have thought it gaudy they would have been

amazed by the splendor. The colour blue came all the way from Afghanistan.

They discover more and more of that stuff.

They used to assume that ancient Greek statues were always "chaste white", and now we know that they were originally usually painted, and even had gold on them, from traces chemists find on the ancient statues.

And folks think of old masters paintings from previous centuries as having that dark look that those paintings have now. But when restorers finish removing oil and soot residue from the old masterpieces - they find that the paints were originally bright and full of light. Well duhhhhh!
