"The Trump administration said Wednesday it will create a way for Americans to legally and safely import lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada for the first time, reversing years of refusals by health authorities amid a public outcry over high prices for life-sustaining medications".

Critics respond:
1. It's dangerous.
2. Safety cannot be guaranteed.
3. Drugs could originate from anywhere in the world before they get to Canada.

Translation:

1. It would cut into our profits.
2. It would cut into our profits.
3. It would cut into our profits.

Go, Mr. President!

I hope he can do it. But I'm understandably skeptical. He hasn't exactly shown much of a backbone when it comes to taking on the Military Industrial Complex. He'll probably cave to big pharm, as well. But we'll see.

Canada population Q2 2019 estimate: 37,602,103

United States population 2018 estimate: 327,167,434

Anyone else see the problem?

It can cause shortages in Canada. I hear that Canada is not entirely happy with Americans flooding across the border to buy medicine and go home.

Why can't they just make drugs here cheaper so people don't have to import them from canada?

And do the same with house prices.

If I had to make a guess, I'd suggest it's to do with patent and copyright laws.

Not a fan of Trump overall but this is still a step in the right direction.

I remember back when companies were outsourcing last decade when Bush banned tge import of Canadian drugs. It was the ultimate F-you to the American consumer whose jobs were being lost overseas but they can't also take advantage of outsourcing to buy cheaper drugs themselves!
