It looks like Florida may be able to enforce the proposition as it was written and passed by the voters. Adding all sorts of catches to the right to vote for felons was the legislature's move.

Good to know the system works.

The voters passed the measure restoring the right to vote to felons when they had finished their sentence. It was intended to be automatic.

That the legislators tried to block it is par for the course in Florida. Florida legislators have also established barriers into the use of medical marijuana, preventing it being used as was directed by the voters. That part is still wonky.

Does this ruling also restore gun ownership rights to felons? I didn't see anything about that in the story.

Isn't one step forward preferable to no steps forward?

A little insight into republican thinking in Florida

An influential 2002 study found that 73 percent of felons and ex-felons would vote Democrat and, if they had been able to vote in 2000, they would have decisively carried Al Gore to victory in Florida and to the White House.

If you read the article the numbers represent the wider population of voters in that half of white prisoners vote democrat and 90% of black prisoners vote democrat...given the disproportionate number of black men put in prison it skews the vote in favor of democrats which is why the rats in the republican party have tried to block prisoners from voting to essentially plug the black vote

All true and well understood by the locals.

Everybody eventually votes for crooks. If candidates aren't crooks before they get elected, then they are very likely to become crooks after they take their oaths of office.

Power corrupts, after all...

Why do the majority of crooks vote for Democrats ?

If you were soon to be released from prison with no hope for housing, employment, et cetera, wouldn't you vote for someone who would likely enact laws that would provide those needs?

One of the biggest reasons for criminal recidivism in areas controlled by the Right seems to be a lack of any social "safety nets" for paroled felons.

Likely, the truth is these crooks have moral weaknesses, so they don't think it's wrong to steal from others.

So, crooks for crooks. :)
