hmmm....
So its like Nixon's Watergate dirty tricks. Nixon sabatoged the election process so that the Dems would nominate the weakest candidate to oppose him to ensure Nixon's victory in the '72. That candidate being George McGovern (the Barry Goldwater of the Left) who was SO far off center that he alienated more voters than he attracted (much like GOP's disasterous running of Goldwater in '64). And sure enough McGovern did loose to Nixon in almost as big a landslide as LBJ defeated Goldwater.
Presumably it's not that Putin wants Sanders in the Oval Office. There is no benefit to Putin for that. Its that Putin wants Sanders to be the opposition bowling pin easiest for Trump to knock down so that Trump can stay in the Oval Office. Not that Putin would be anymore afraid of Sanders than of any other conventional Dem or conventional GOP candidate. Its just that Trump is the only person in either party who does Putin's bidding so he wants to keep Trump in the White House.
So Sanders is McGovern, and Trump is Nixon, but Nixon with the help of a foreign power than Nixon didn't have as his partner in crime.
Interesting.
The Sixteen election had populist uprisings in both parties. Trump lead the GOP uprising and succeeded in commandeering the GOP. Sanders almost but didn't quite overthrow the rule of the party elite in the Democrat party, but ...may well succeed this time.
Voters in the US, or many of them, want somekind of big change. And voted for that in both parties, and did so against the will of the ruling elites in both parties.
So yes...Carville is right. It could be "a good night for Putin" if things go according to (what we would assume) is Putin's plan-which is for Sanders to be the Dem nominee, but NOT the next POTUS...and for that to ensure Trump wins in the general.
However ...if it causes Sanders to win the Dem nomination, and then Sanders goes on to actually defeat Trump in an upset victory (that didn't happen with McGovern) in the general election, then Putin's plan would have backfired.
If tomorrow Trump were to slip on a banana peel and die by accident, and Pence were to become POTUS- that would be a disaster for Putin. A disaster for the same reason that Sanders winning the 2020 Presidential election would be a disaster for Putin. All American pols right, left and center, (from the far right Pence to the far left Sanders) are pro NATO and are anti Russian except Trump.
ANY one in the Oval office from the farthest right GOPer (Cruz, Pence, Bachman) to middle of the roaders in both Parties (Mitt, Rubio, Hillary, Joe Biden) to the farthest left of left Dem (Sanders,AOC) would be a disaster for Putin, because every American pol of both parties of every color on the political spectrum (except Trump) is in favor of restoring our NATO alliances, and would be anti Russian. So from Putin's POV its not about the GOP vs the Dems. Its about Trump vs everyone else in both parties. So an upset Sanders win in the general election would mean a person who is not Trump would replace Trump in the Oval office and would be a defeat for Putin.
So...where does that leave you and I, the American voter? What kind of three dimensional chess are you supposed to play now that we know that both Sanders and Trump are foreign assets?
If you support Trump then you're already a traitor to the nation who supports a foreign puppet. You've already sold your soul to vote Trump. So you just keep on being a traitor and support Trump.
If you're a Dem then you're a traitor if you support Sanders in the Primary season. But if Sanders gets nominated then ….you are no longer doing Putin's bidding and being a traitor to the nation if you support Sanders in the General election.
So it isn't really three dimensional chess after all. For voters of both parties its simple.
If you're Dem, but also are a patriot who wants to defy Putin, then vote against Sanders during Primary season, but vote for him in the General against Trump if Sanders gets nominated, because Putin does not want Sanders in the Oval Office. Putin wants to keep Trump in the Oval Office.
Unfortunately if your a Republican you have to stay loyal to Trump, and you have to just keep on bending over and allowing Putin to give you the old in and out. No way to opt out of that and become a patriot. Unfortunate. But also simple.
So GOP voters just carry on being traitors to the US. Dem voters...oppose Sanders in Primary season, but support Sanders whole heartedly and patriotically...if he gets nominated.
But what if you are a Dem who actually supports Sanders from the get go?
Then … like a Trump supporter- you will just have to swallow your pride and your patriotism and be willing to receive stolen goods. And be honest with yourself that you are supporting someone who is a foreign asset.
