Stupid people, who revel in their ignorance sound alike, so why not? Why not condemn a cartoon depicting the rape of a teen outright without trying to weigh it in against slights made towards another group?

Are you talking about what has been said this thread?

I'm asking about your first comment "It's disgusting. But....". I may be wrong but I suspect that you may have reacted differently if you saw Greta as someone in alignment with your, or your group's views. It got me thinking about conditioning in general. We hear all the time that GT is a puppet, whereas I would say that many of her views will have been shaped by her conditioning. I feel that the same can be said about the people who criticise her so doggedly, or jealously, whichever it is.

So you decided to call me stupid and ignorant and so on? Even though I too am an autistic teenager? I have said a few times that those who complain about a teenager being attacked, in general, have no qualms about attacking me.

I'll reiterate that no one was defending the cartoon whatsoever. Not ever. Not anywhere. It's reprehensible regardless of age, regardless of gender, regardless of neurotype.

It is getting to the point where people should start feeling afraid to talk about Greta Thunberg, because others are so deeply emotionally wrapped up in her.

Some idiot finds a random tattoo stincel, whites someone's name on it, and and people go completely apeshit over it.

Absolutely ridiculous.

From where I'm standing (neutral on the issue, don't get the hysteria), both sides come across as emotionally involved to an unreasonable degree.

It's a shame she cannot go against Trump in the next election since she seems to have become an equally divisive figure

This.
Seconded.

Given the opportunity, I would like to meet Ms. Thunberg.

Ezra, I was referring to the people who made the stickers and anyone who would actually wear one to impress their friends, I haven't called you anything. But I'd be careful when comparing the GT sticker to Trump or Putin cartoon, we're talking about a teenager, who, on the strength of her convictions, takes public transport to challenge the powers that be, not someone who travels with an entourage and bodyguards. It's a gross depiction of rape, I don't see where "if" or "but" comes into the equation.

For what it's worth I couldn't give a hoot about her as a person, autistic or not, I admire her courage.

I've seen the original drawing and the doctored "sticker". It does not necessarily depict rape, but only a common porn trope. Only in the doctored image is the female identified as someone named "Greta". Otherwise it could represent any woman with long, braided hair.

Try being less cryptic please. Especially when you are doling out admonishments and insults. And no, I will not be careful. She is not a child any more than I am, and she is not Jesus Christ or Mohamed. And it is not a gross depiction of rape - it is just a simplistic tattoo stencil that someone added a name to.

What's going to happen when someone photoshops Greta's head onto a random porn shot? People are going to need to be given tranquilizers over something like that. will probably suffer from PTSD afterwards.

The internet is a wonderful invention in many ways, but the way it is used to try and intimidate targets (like this so-called "cartoon") are unspeakably vile, malicious and cowardly. These attacks aren't "jokes", they are something much darker than that.

I mean no disrespect to anyone, including Greta. I just want to know why it's considered disgusting and inappropriate to show this happen to a young woman, but not when it's men in similar sex acts without consent? When it's men (e.g., Trump and Putin), people seem to laugh and think it's funny. I don't understand why women are considered more vulnerable, or why they're protected more in public opinion.

It's wrong regardless I agree

It might be relevant to note that petroleum companies have never been particularly ethical organisations to start off with and I am certain their employees are feeling emboldened to cross the lines of decency in caricaturing a young girl who they perceive (wrongly) is symbol threatening their livelihood in this industry. Both the organisation who's logo is being used and the perpatrator of the cartoon need to make a public apology and do some type of community service.

Closer to home there are certain individuals (who shall remain unnamed) who consider the imagery of the rape of a 17 year old girl something to ridicule for the opportunity to denigrate Greta Thunberg's name. I would perhaps be more concerned about their consistent conduct on this forum and their inclination to use their autism to defend their behavior which more than once ends up derailing and closing down a thread.

I think the main goal is to create massive public outrage. Which seems remarkably easy to accomplish.

That seems to be the goal of the ilk of 8chan and its spin offs yes, troll bullies who hide behind anonymity. The goal of the troll armies is to cause harm to others for their own sadistic amusement and the more harm the happier those sickos are.
