Apparently, the mother has confessed to killing her son. Pushed him into a canal and his screams alerted rescuers. So she took him to another canal and succeeded on the second try.

Anyone following the news over several years might come up with the wild notion that there was a pattern of parents killing autistic kids....

Yeah but what about the staged kidnapping?

A Home Depot employee witnessed it, and cameras shows she waited 20 mins after the "kidnapping" to call police.

Are the police still searching for the blue sedan?

Are the police searching for her accomplices?

Did her accomplices assist her in the drowning?

Could the Home Depot employee have been mistaken? perhaps the mother did hire 2 thugs but then why was this not picked up on CCTV?

"One of the Home Depot's employees had told WSVN that Ripley was abducted after two unknown men rammed their vehicle into his mother’s car"

So, there are two accomplices?

The news articles that I saw did not say the Home Depot employee was an eye witness.

Plus Home Depot parking lots are huge, even bigger than Walmart,it would be hard for employee busy working to actually see whats going on in the parking, unless they just got lucky and there gaze went to the right spot.

I think the black guys are made up weren't acomplices, this woman acted alone, the child was likely dead before she even made it to Home Depot.

Here is a different perspective:

One Miami-Dade nonprofit says it is experiencing an uptick in calls from parents of children with special needs who are in crisis after the death this week of a 9-year-old boy who had autism.

The death of Alejandro Ripley — who police say was murdered when his mother , Patricia Ripley, pushed the boy into a canal — has rippled throughout the special needs community in Miami, according to Rabbi Yossi Harlig, co-director of Friendship Circle Miami. The organization’s main program pairs children with developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder or Down syndrome, with children who do not have disabilities.

“One of the concerns is that when someone acts like that, it could trigger other people. You never know,” Harlig said. “Typical families are feeling overwhelmed. Imagine if you’re raising a child with special needs.”

He stressed that parents of children with special needs have been especially affected by stay-at-home measures in the state, leaving some parents with no choice but to quit their jobs to care for their children.

“One thing that people always tell us is that they feel very isolated and alone, and there’s nowhere to turn to,” Harlig said. “One of the big things that people need is respite...to have a place where they can drop off their child for a few hours and they can take a break.”

Patricia Ripley, 47, of West Kendall, admitted to leading her child into a canal on May 21, after initially claiming that he had been kidnapped. Authorities confronted Ripley with video evidence and later arrested her on a charge of first-degree murder. Details later surfaced indicating Ripley tried to drown Alejandro earlier in the day, but was stopped by a good Samaritan who rescued the boy from the water.

So I wonder what the stressors were for Patricia Ripley. Having a non-verbal autistic child can be challenging.

Alejandro was non-verbal and in the past had attended Greater Heights Academy, a West Kendall school for special-needs children. The boy received tutoring at home, and investigators believe the task may have overwhelmed Ripley in recent months.

The coronavirus is currently placing significant stress on society and this is creating mental health issues on Aspies and NTs alike. I am not trying to condone her actions but rather understand them.

Florida mom accused of drowning 9-year-old son in canal pleads not guilty

Quote:
A mother in Florida who is accused of drowning her 9-year-old son in a canal last month has pleaded not guilty through her attorney, the Miami Herald reports.

Patricia Ripley, 45, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated child abuse and filing a false police report.

Her son, Alejandro Ripley, who had severe autism and was nonverbal, was found dead on May 22 in a canal at a Golf & Country Club in western Miami-Dade County.

Prosecutors have filed a notice to seek a grand jury indictment for first-degree murder. At this time, grand juries have been suspended due to the pandemic. Someone cannot receive the death penalty unless they are indicted by a grand jury, according to Florida law.

Ripley initially told Miami-Dade Police that two men side-swiped her car while she was driving with her son, Alejandro Ripley, around 9 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

She said the men demanded drugs and abducted her son. Contradicting witness statements and video footage later surfaced, and she admitted to her son’s death.

“She stated he’s going to be in a better place,” the Miami-Dade County Police said in an affidavit

Ripley initially told police the driver of the vehicle had a knife, got out and demanded drugs.

When she didn’t provide drugs, the man opened the car door and took her cellphone and tablet, she said, according to the affidavit. Then he kidnapped Alejandro, it added.

The boy’s body was found hours later still wearing a Captain America T-shirt, said Katherine Fernandez Rundle, the Miami-Dade State Attorney.

Once she was taken to the missing person’s office, police said, Ripley began providing conflicting statements about what took place.

Ripley was then taken to the homicide bureau where she was read her Miranda rights.

“These statements … contradicted the statements of witnesses and the video footage obtained from the area,” police said in the affidavit. “Upon being confronted with this information, the defendant recanted her initial story including that she had been robbed.”

Video footage shows Ripley pushing the victim into a canal around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Nearby residents heard screaming, found Alejandro in the canal and rescued him, Rundle said.

Ripley took Alejandro to a different canal an hour later where the boy drowned, the affidavit said.

She was arrested and booked in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Saturday, according to Miami-Dade County Corrections records.
