So I'm sure many of you heard about the errant ball hit by tennis superstar Novak Djokovic which hit a line judge in the throat, and the fallout: Djokovic was disqualified, and now this poor woman (the line judge) has received all kinds of online threats and really nasty personal attacks. :(

It's so sad and frustrating to see that "NT culture" reveres pro athletes as gods who can do no wrong, whether it be rapes or assaults or whatever, when the complainers or victims are seen as the troublemakers who need to be taught a lesson

Like it's some pseudo-Darwinian remnant of the human condition.
It's like an echo of the "jockocracy" that many of us had to endure from "the Chads" back in our youth.

People are upset because it was an accident. I'm sure he tried his best to not hit a line judge while he was playing but no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Why should he be disqualified for it?

If you watch his eyes he was clearly aiming the ball at the line judge. He misjudged the speed of the ball and that he could injure the person because he was angry and wasn't cognisant that he could have injured her.

If you read his G/Fs statement in his defence about him needing anger-management therapy so she quite clearly understood his intent.

He may be fortunate to get away with not having a longer suspension as suggested by Aussie tennis player Nick Kygrios.

He wasn’t playing at the time, the ball was dead, he hit it backwards in frustration and he hit a line judge.

If he had hit the ball over the net in normal play and it had hit a line judge then it would have been purely unfortunate with no blame attached. But instead he did something reckless and is responsible for the injury.

Pro sports today are little more than playground politics on a grander scale.  A year from now, there will be another "scandal" that a school playground monitor would have simply ignored.
