Mary Kay Letourneau dies at 58

Mary Kay Letourneau,one time teacher who was convicted of the statutory rape of one her 13 year old students and later married him after serving a prison sentence.Has died of cancer on monday near Seattle,she was 58,her lawyer,David Gehrke said.

She died surrounded by her children and Vili Fualaau,the former student in question she later married.

Letourneau and Mr Fualaau had two children together before he turned 15 in a relationship they defended as consensual,and the couple married at the end of her prison term in 2005.

She was widely condemned for her predatory behavior,but the relationship lasted well into Fuataau's adulthood until they split up in 2019.

She was a teacher in the highline school district,near Seattle,she was 34 when the relationship began with Mr Fualaau,when he was 13.

i wish i had her as a teacher. not PC but the truth nonetheless. i hope she finds herself in a good place upstairs.

The trouble with her is that she didn’t really encourage him to be a good student. It was an exploitative relationship.

If their relationship resulted in him getting a college degree, I would have felt better about it.

the exploitation went both ways at different times. even a 14 year old boy understands what a husband and family are all about.

I would never condone pedophilia,but this relationship seemed consensual and lasted well until the students adulthood.so he clearly knew what he was getting into when he got into the relationship.I'm not able to say the relationship was healthy but I can say it is not depraved in nature like most other such relationships.

Would posters be sort of saying it was kind of ok if it it was a male teacher and a young female student? I doubt it. I thought this was supposed to be #MeToo era, silly me.

when i was in high school, the band teacher did what he ought not to have done, with a comely cheerleader who was in his class. he was fired. don't know if he got jail or not.

this kinda stuff seems all too common and for as long almost, as there have been schools, teachers and students.

There have been quite a few teachers who slept with there students in the news over the years.

I once had a computer teacher in maybe 5th grade who was molesting his step son and got his head blown off with double aught buck.

The step son went to juvi for a while but I heard he is doing well now.

i wonder what happened to the head blower-offer.

oh, sorry i misunderstood, the molested one did the killing then.
