Finally, someone who is NOT a wealthy white male over the age of 60 on a Presidential/Vice-Presidential ticket.(A later edit...)

Somehow, in the rush to post and get out the door, I deleted some words.

I meant "Finally" as in "Finally, an announcement!" and "I'm glad Biden picked someone who ..."

Sorry 'bout that.

 Stupid me...

Mike Pence was 57 in 2016. It hasn't been that long.

I hope she has other qualifications other than not being an older white man...

Ferraro was 50, and Palin was 44.

Maybe Fnord was trying to say we need more white males over 60?

I'm glad his team had the good sense to not try to 'unite' the left with a more progressive candidate for a VP on the issues. Feel like that would have paved the way for Trump. Harris was the obvious choice, picking any of the late drop outs would have sown discord with supporters of other late drop outs.

I want more progressive candidates, but realism for now.

I figure I'll get my head bitten off, but here it goes.

This does not help Joe Biden.

Harris is from California, which the Dems have a mortal lock on.

She is not particularly well-liked in corners of the Black Community (she is associated with harsh penalties)

She has little pull in the Midwest battleground states that may decide a close election.

She is not by nature warm or personable. She's an assassin, a person who will say the nasty stuff. That may backfire against a dignified nonentity like Mike Pence.

She has famously called Joe out on problematic racial stuff.

Conclusion: this is probably good for Trump and Maga.

Donald Trump, on hearing the news: "She was my No. 1 draft pick. We'll see how she works out."

Has Kamala Harris shaken off allegations she blocked petitions from death row in-mates for DNA tests when she was a prosecutor?

She sounds like our former Australian foreign minister who also used to be a female litigator who among other things defended a rogue mining company against exploited workers who were dying from cancer?

It seems in order to get to the top in politics you need some level of ruthlessness

I agree. I just hope it doesn't help Trump too much.

Is she black?
Her parents are south Asian (mom) and Jamaican (dad).  She identifies as black.

Does it matter?

Me too!

A highly intelligent and educated multicultural lawyer from California versus a monocultural, evangelical, born-again Christian fundamentalist from Indiana.

If, during the debates, she can keep her cool while he rabidly quotes Scriptures, we may finally see The Right become "woke" to the doo-doo factory that has been the Oval Office for the last few years.

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown addressed his past extramarital relationship with U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris in his weekly column Saturday, saying he may have boosted the presidential hopeful's career.

"Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago," Brown wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle.
"Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two state commissions when I was [California] Assembly speaker. And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco."
