my plans to call the SC dep't vital records hit a snag when my power went out for 2 days here. drat. will try tomorrow.

No, never questioned it. My guess would be that he used his phone. These days almost everyone in the world has a smartphone, or at least a mobile phone of some kind. See More People Have Mobile Phones Than Toilets by Tim Worstall, Forbes, written way back on Mar 23, 2013. Even back then, many homeless people in many different countries around the world had mobile phones.

he used the library 'puter as often as he could get away with. but he had an internet-enabled cell phone, or many of them as they kept being stolen from him. he was always bitterly complaining about how hard it was to websurf on those devices, itty-bitty buttons too small for fat fingertips, screens too small to read.

i called SC vital records, only to find that the coroner's office handles all things decedent including disposition of remains. the person in charge will only be available next sunday so i will have to call her then to inquire.

I just read the news today. He was a Sweet Pea. I've enjoyed reading his posts and PMs through the years. RIP

I had no idea he was still living homeless! Thanks for being his friend AB

I remember him, this is sad to hear.

I find it very sad he was never able to get the help he needed, it shouldn't be possible for people to slip through the cracks like that. He lived so long with his health issues on the streets and unable to be properly treated for them and that to me is kind of an injustice.

But any way RIP.

what i found out from the coroner today, is that they hold remains of homeless folk for a month, before releasing them to the SC public administration office. that is the next person in the bureaucracy i need to contact.

Do you have someone supporting you with all these phone calls and the responsibility, blabbs?

Are you OK? Do you need help?

This all sounds so very upsetting, and emotional.

^^^thank you Isabella it is just a few phone calls is all. KK seems ok with placing the ashes if i obtain them, in the appropriate place in NY at a good time for him.

the coroner said the normal end for homeless people is to be cremated then having their cremains dispersed in the pacific ocean. that seems poetic to me, so if the SC public administrator turns my request down, i am ok with his ashes in the sea. i am sure Walter would agree at least somewhat.

If the PA agrees, would they send the cremains directly to NY, or would you have to do that?

I wish I could help but I'm not on his geographic wish list.

I think the Pacific was one of his choices, but I suppose farther south would be ideal.
