US to increase presence in Australia, Indo-Pacific region to deter 'potential military aggression' from China

The US Department of Defence has revealed it will "advance initiatives" with allies in the Indo-Pacific to help bring stability to the region after a senior Biden administration official identified China as the nation's "pacing challenge".

Asked to expand on infrastructure plans in Australia, Dr Karlin said they would involve new rotational fighter and bomber aircraft deployments, ground forces training and “increased logistics cooperation”.

“Actually more broadly across the Indo-Pacific you’ll see a range of infrastructure improvements in Guam, the Commonwealth of the North Mariana Islands and Australia.”

This includes logistics facilities, feel storage, munitions storage, airfield upgrades.
