I'm glad I learned to fight back so that the unresolved anger of childhood experiences isn't motivating me to support barbarity as an adult.

Now I own guns so bring it on.

It wouldn't last a year before going under unless they adopted their managers ways. Read Animal Farm.

Clinton was sympathetic being a criminal himself and a wife cheating scum bag. His pasty thighs should have been split open on the frame as well.

You're aware Orwell was a socialist criticizing a certain school of thought within socialism, and not someone condemning socialism as a whole, right?

"Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly against totalitarianism and for democratic Socialism as I understand it"- George Orwell

Unintentional satire is best satire.

Bet you have also done something worthy of a good whack with a stick.

I'm pretty sure a goblin with a grudge would be capable of disposing of an adversary they could physically locate. I mean, if a stalker can do it the matter of what motivates said stalker is secondary.

You should be on a watch list.

Thought crime? :nerdy:

It's called a crime of intent, which you can indeed be imprisoned for. I'm betting you dream about gunning down sweat shop owners and others not with your Neo Marxist garbage.

Well, let's have a happy medium, and cane sweatshop owners.

In countries that have them, sweat shops provide needed employment to youth with few other options, prostitution being the main one.

What they need to do is unionize, like employees forced to work in inhumane conditions have done in the west.

I've always found that to be an interesting story, how Orwell went off to the Spanish civil war filled with romantic notions of fighting the fascists, only to find himself witnessing the internal purges conducted by the Stalinist elements and eventually was himself the target of the NKVD operating in the country, and escapes to write Animal Farm and 1984 to warn against what he's seen. Unlike many communists/socialists of the era, he was ahead of the curve in recognizing what was brewing in the USSR, quite a few of them rationalized away the show trials of the 30s and the Great Terror, or the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, till well past the end of the 2nd world war.

Still doesn't negate the fact Orwell was a socialist, though.

I never claimed he wasn't...

Definitely, he was one of the first to really make the case that Soviet style socialism was bound to be terrible and dehumanizing. Emma Goldman is another one who warned about how that sorta socialism was bound to unfold, she even lived there for awhile.

Only real issue I have with these laws is the technical illegality of homosexuality, but lots of places are like that including some US states.

It's almost like civilized societies decided physical abuse to force compliance was uncivilized or something.
Good on 'em.

In Saudi Arabia stealing that tip jar would cost you a hand. In Singapore dumping a bucket of filth in public would get you seven lashes with a cane wielded by a martial arts expert. As a result these sorts of crimes are non existent there.

And neither of those are places I'd hold up as examples of civilization.

Yes they are. It's not like either one is some malaria infested swamp in the Amazon where the people live in mud huts.

I wouldn't hold the nature of a society's basic housing or it's location against them but corporal punishment shows a distinct lack of civilized thought.

Ok then how do you think tribes of traditional people handle criminals?

Shoot to kill.

Chewing gum is illegal there because it was once used to paralyze their train system by people using it to cover up sensors. I wonder why anyone would do this.

Actually, restorative justice/peacemaking is the preferred approach favoured by First Nations people.
