believe you me, it was something like being an indentured servant on the good days, a jail inmate on the bad days. i put up with it for the term of my enlistment, 4 years. if i were cagier with the recruiters who signed me up, i coulda been out in half the time, my fellow GIs thought i was an idiot with my 4-year enlistment when they all had 2 or 3 years.
What did you do immediately after getting out?
pounded the pavement for 3 solid months, got rammed by a drunk driver for my trouble, things were bleak until some people quit at the local military hospital [madigan army med ctr. JBLM] and they were desperate for new meat, and i went from bottom of the list to top of the list for hire]. and on the other subject, a skunk got chased into our garage by our siamese cat one cold icy winter's day. man, what a big smell.
