Is it weird that we're all waiting to for the race of the shooter to drop so we know which narrative to go with?
Who is this "We" of whom you speak?

In 2010, the racial makeup of Oxford, Michigan was 95.1% White, 1.9% African-American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races.  Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.4% of the population.

Authorities look for possible motive behind 15-year-old Michigan high school shooting suspect. Here's what we know

Quote:
Once the suspect encountered the officers, he put his hands up and they took a gun from him before placing him in custody.

The gun, a 9MM Sig Sauer SP2022 pistol, was loaded with seven rounds.

Investigators identified the victims who died as Tate Myre, 16, Hanna St. Julian, 14, and Madisyn Baldwin, 17.
Myre died in a patrol car as a deputy was attempting to rush him to the hospital due to the "severity of his wounds," Bouchard said.

Eight others -- seven students and a teacher -- were shot, Bouchard said. Three are in critical condition with gunshot wounds, including a 14-year-old girl who is on a ventilator after having surgery. A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the jaw and head, Bouchard said. Three students are in stable condition and the teacher who was shot has been discharged.

There were multiple other non-life-threatening injuries sustained by people as they were rushing out of the school, Bouchard said. Most were treated and released at a staging area, he said.

The suspect, a sophomore at the school, is being held at Oakland County Children's Village -- a juvenile detention facility -- and is on suicide watch where he is being checked on every 15 minutes, said David Coulter, the Oakland County executive.

"We don't have a motive at this point in time," McCabe said Tuesday. "We are still investigating that."

The suspect's parents hired an attorney and have not permitted him to talk with police, officials said.

The semiautomatic handgun recovered by law enforcement was bought by the suspect's father on Friday, Bouchard said.

Investigators are also looking into a social media post apparently made by the suspect that appeared to show the weapon and a target, Bouchard said. "We are going to do a deep dive on the social media and all the activities of this young man."

Bouchard said his department was not aware of any prior concerns at the school.
McCabe said the suspect could be charged as an adult, but that is up to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.

A total of 11 people -- 10 students and a teacher -- were shot, and the three victims who have died were identified Tuesday evening by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.  They were Tate Myre, a 16-year-old male, Hana St. Juliana, a 14-year-old female, and Madisyn Baldwin, a 17-year-old female.

Myre died in a patrol car while deputies were transporting him to a hospital immediately due to the severity of his injuries.

Of the other eight people injured, one, a 14-year-old female victim is in critical condition and on a ventilator after surgery for chest and neck wounds.  A 17-year-old female with a chest wound and a 15-year-old male with a head wound are also in critical condition, and a 14-year-old male with jaw and hand wounds remains in serious condition.

A 17-year-old female with a neck wound, a 15-year-old male victim with a leg wound and a 17-year-old male with a hip wound are in stable condition.  The teacher, a 47-year-old female, has been discharged after receiving treatment for injuries to her left shoulder.

Again, this is largely a media driven phenomenon, school shootings remain incredibly rare, our perception that they are not is fully attributable to the outsize coverage they recieve, for reasons of both ratings and politics.

Lock downs occur at schools when there is a credible threat. The credible threat and the lock down precedes any media coverage.

There was usually at least one credible threat lock down each school year.

CNN Live Updates

Quote:
The suspect in the Michigan high school shooting will be charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count terrorism causing death, among other charges.

The 15-year-old suspect is being charged as an adult, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald announced at a news conference.

The suspect also faces seven counts of assault with intent to murder and 12 counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges are possible, McDonald said.

Prosecutors are considering charges against the parents of the 15-year-old suspect in the school shooting that left four students dead in Oxford, Michigan, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald announced today.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said the shooting was premeditated “well before the incident,” adding that a “mountain of digital evidence” adds to the confidence in the charges of first-degree murder.

The charge of first-degree murder “requires premeditation and I am absolutely sure after reviewing the evidence that it isn’t even a close call, it was absolutely premeditated”

She said the digital evidence includes video tapes, social media and more.

She would not comment on whether the victims were targeted. She also addressed the atypical decision to charge the suspect with a terrorism offense.

“What about all these other children, what about all the children who ran, screaming, hiding under desks," she said. “What about all the children at home right now who can’t eat and can’t sleep and can’t imagine a world where they could ever step back in school – those are victims too and so are their families and so is the community and the charge of terrorism reflects that."

She also called for stronger gun laws, saying, “If the incident yesterday with four children being murdered and multiple children being injured is not enough to revisit our gun laws, I don’t know what is.”

Also, there are all the mass shootings that don't occur at schools.
