yeah. this puts Europe in a bit of a pickle: we were banking on that Russian natural gas as part of our transition to renewables. Now we have to shift over to importing fracking gas from the US, which is more expensive and an ecological disaster, and we can't just shift from getting gas from a pipeline running through the Baltic sea to getting liquefied gas by ship via Rotterdam like that. ... Thanks, Vladimir.

Mmm... this sanction-based reaction seems like trying to stop a raging grizzly by telling it very bad names. In the end it will eat your arm, but damn now it clearly knows what I think of his mother!! !

Very little vodka ever got imported to the US from Russia. All of those bottles in the liquor store with Russian sounding names (like Smirnoff) are American brands.

Your cutting off their income. Not as bad as shooting them, but worse than just calling them names.

Yes, this could be threating for an advanced economy like US, Canada or Europe.
But Russians comes out of socialist economy and continuos economic crumbles. They can live with less without having much to lose. As long as vodka rivers won't stop flowing thru Russia, they can face it.
In my opinion poverty won't change their mentality of a bit, if not making them angrier toward the West and more united around their leader.
Better than nothing, but yet not so much game-changing.
