Just a heads up to anyone in the upper midwest US, there is a severe storm system/potential derecho headed your way this evening (with the possibility of nocturnal tornadoes). Please have your safety plan in place! *hugs and stay safe* <3

I am in Rochester MN so it will be interesting tonight. The EOC here tested the tornado warning sirens this morning just in case.

That is a relief to hear that they are already taking some safety measures! Do you have a shelter or basement?

And everyone in the surrounding areas should be on guard as well! Weather is so unpredictable and wild!

The tornado warnings are for parts of eastern Nebraska.

After the thunderstorms and winds, the weather will get much colder---especially north.

While not really abnormally cold for Minnesota, it will be a shock to the system there. From the 60s now in Rochester to the 20s later on tonight.

The wind gusts are going to be damaging enough without these tornadoes (some confirmed already).

I don't have a basement but I do have an interior closet or bathroom that should work. I also am charging my brick and will charge my cell phone next. I have water, a stove that runs on unleaded gas or kerosene, and the parishable foods can be put outside once it get real cold.

I am more worried about the tornadoes and the winds than the cold. I have experienced wider temp changes in the past 20 years I have lived in Rochester MN. If there is one thing we get from the weather, it is the extremes.
