At least 4 dead, multiple people injured in shooting at Tulsa, Oklahoma, medical office

Quote:
At least four people are dead and multiple people are injured following a shooting at the Natalie Building at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, according to police.

Police received a call of a man walking with a rifle near a medical office shortly before 5 p.m. local time. When police responded, they said it turned into an active shooter situation, according to Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg.

When police entered the building, they found multiple people shot.

"Officers immediately rushed to the second floor where the shooting was taking place, when they got there they found a few people had been shot, a couple were dead at that time," Meulenberg told ABC News. "We also found at that time who [we] believe and still believe to [be] the shooter because he had a long rifle and a pistol with him."

Tulsa police said the shooter died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said they went through the five-story medical complex room by room to secure the building.

"We are doing a meticulous floor-by-floor, room-by-room search ... It's calmed down. We're trying to connect people and we're hoping not to find any victims," Meulenberg said.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the shooting, the White House said.

CNN Live Update

Quote:
Police arrived to shooting scene within minutes of first call, deputy chief says
Tulsa Police officers responded to the scene of an active shooting on the St. Francis Hospital campus within minutes of the first call, arriving while the shooting was ongoing, Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish said in a news conference Wednesday night.

“The officers that did arrive were hearing shots in the building, and that’s what directed them to the second floor,” he said.

Gunman used a rifle and hand gun in shooting, deputy chief says
Tulsa Deputy Police Chief Eric Dalgleish told reporters Wednesday the gunman in the shooting on the St. Francis Hospital campus used two firearms during the shooting.

Dalgleish says the gunman had a long gun, or rifle, and one handgun. The deputy chief said it is believed the gunman fired both weapons during the shooting.

Authorities investigating multiple locations, police captain say
Tulsa Police Department Capt. Richard Meulenberg told CNN's Laura Coates that officials are not releasing the name of the shooter or any information pertaining to the individual due to the ongoing investigation at the scene, as well as investigations underway at other locations.

“So we're still working with other agencies and other jurisdictions as this is related to a much bigger issue with this shooter,” he said.

Meulenberg said police do not believe anyone else is in danger, but they are looking at locations outside of the facility. He added that the police do not think the shooter was targeting the entire five-floor facility, but instead that he targeted the second floor and “went to this floor with purpose."

Tulsa shooting is the nation's 233rd mass shooting in 2022, per Gun Violence Archive
There have so far been at least 233 mass shootings in 2022, according to the nonprofit organization Gun Violence Archive — including today's shooting in Tulsa.

June 1 was the 152nd day of the year. This means there have been more mass shootings this year than there have been days in 2022.

CNN and the GVA define a mass shooting as a shooting that injured or killed four or more people, not including the shooter

Looks like school is more dangerous place to be in the US than serving in the military
