Yes, I do find it another problem - though, the mass shooters I'm reading about are ones who go to a store, buy guns and go use them.

Yes, sadly it has become part and parcel of life in the US. I do not have a concealed carry license, it would be easy enough to get one. I don't let it scare me, but I do combine my trips. I have a list, I'm in and out. Seldom do I linger.

My uncle has his concealed carry permit, he's a deacon in the Anglican church and he's their designated security. People have to stop burying their heads in the sand and get proactive. Find someone in each organization who is willing to become the 'person' during an active shooter situation, and fight back!! !

You know, with such visions in mind, I'm really glad I live somewhere where mass shootings just don't happen.

my state has some of the strictest gun laws in the US...and some of the lowest gun violence numbers as well. I guess we don't have as many mentally ill people here.

It's too late for us, we have no choice. If the government all of a sudden decided to go from home to home confiscating guns there would be a civil war, with half the population wiped out. Leftists on this site are quick to say, "No they wouldn't, they'd give up." But they do not live in States that believe the way some of these people believe. Look up Ruby Ridge and you will see what I mean. That, and Waco are very real potentials here.

A few years ago, a friend and myself were parked outside a store at a Tanger outlet mall just about 5 or 10 minutes before a shooter shot two people, killing one. Scary!

That's why it mustn't be done all of the sudden. Every step has to be well-thought and realistic.

I doubt very much the government would go to individual homes to confiscate guns; there's just too many people, and too few government agents.

The next time I need to choose a new user name, I think I will choose "Guns".

That way, I will never get banned.

Not reading the whole thread but I will say since most school shooters seem to be male teens, I say they should raise the gun ownership age higher. They do that with car rentals, to buy alcohol, cigarettes' and tobacco, why not guns?

Will young teens still find ways to guns, yes like they do with the others and most of these young teens with guns came from homes that have guns and they are not securely locked. Plus mental health plays a role in it and when I was in high school, my parents made sure my grandfather's gun was locked up because they didn't want to be that statistic given the fact I had mental health issues. This is why parents of shooters get sued because of their negligence to their mental health and failure to keep their guns secured.

And I think schools need to be more secured and I would rather have schools be like a prison to keep students safe than have them be opened where anyone can just walk in. At least here in my kids' school, all doors are kept locked at all times, kids are not allowed to leave their commons, everyone has to get in through the office and doors are always locked. It's like the school is always in lock down and I tell my kids it's for safety. They don't want anyone just walking into the building with a rifle and start shooting.

We are fortunate to have a long-standing legal principle that authorities may not enter a residence without a warrant. A judge signs the warrant, and to do that you must convince the judge that there is probable cause to enter the residence. Since there is no mandatory registration of firearms there are no complete or reliable records of who and where possesses a firearm. The judge won't help you if you've got nothing to show for a probable cause.

In the states with a Castle Doctrine executing a search without a warrant would be especially comical. :rambo:

In that case, I would choose "Socialism" instead.

One can't fund armed guards for every potentially crowded place.

The mental health issues of mass shooters are often undiagnosed before the shootings - and that's another problem. If diagnosed mental illness would mean restrictions but undiagnosed mental illness would not, people would avoid diagnoses even more than they do now.

Stop the bullying and most of these shootings wouldn't happen.
There is blood on the hands of these thugs. 8)

That's nothing a little concealed carry can't solve. More and more shooters are being stopped in places that don't ban fire arms... Ironically, the places that ban fire arms are the places that frequently leave the doors wide open and no one is trained to stop the shooter. Once the person is inside, in a classroom, they have the upper hand against people who come later. If there were armed personnel already in there, it would make a difference. What I'm saying probably sounds outrageous to you, perhaps it is. But, this is the only life I've ever known. There is an element of desensitization that has happened to me.

Did you see my earlier post? There are 50+ million more guns than people in the US, and we have no idea where they are.

People become desensitised through violent media.
The consequences are obvious.

I am not advocating for a "Nanny State".
