Bank robbery & shootout yesterday in Saanich BC, 2 killed

Well boys yesterday was insane we had a full tilt shootout infront of my house I watched officers being shot and one gunman be shot and killed my wife and daughter are more than shook and we haven't been able to return home since yesterday morning as the area is still barricaded due to an explosive device being found I was calm in the moment (as best I could be) and got my family to safety while bullets whizzed past our windows but I barely slept last night images of the blood and death and all the gun shots were ringing in my head needless to say I'm feeling the trauma of yesterday's events and it only being 20 feet from my front door we don't feel safe in our home now my family is reluctant to return (when we will be cleared to that is) we don't have our wallets, ID or money or even clothing we were given no direction on any help for the short term and have no idea what's going to happen next or how long we will be out of our home my 10 year old daughter fears for her life now she was basically giving her last will and testament in the moment wanting to call everyone close to her before she perished I am seeking help from victim services to help with counseling for her but my anxiety and emotions are catching up to me now too I just don't know what to do I'm haunted by what I saw

Multiple explosive devices were found in a vehicle connected to two robbery suspects who were gunned down outside a bank in Saanich.

Saanich Chief Const. Dean Duthie said Wednesday an RCMP explosive disposal unit was able to transfer the devices from the vehicle to a local landfill and destroy them.

Police had evacuated the area shortly after the shooting on Tuesday as the explosives unit was called in.

Six officers were shot and two suspects were killed in the gunfight with police on Tuesday.

Duthie said three of the officers remain in hospital, including one who is in intensive care, while another officer will require more surgeries.

The chief said police are still investigating the possibility of a third suspect, although they don’t believe there is a risk to the public.

He said police were acting on vague information.

Duthie has looked at much of the video footage of the incident and said it is a miracle no one else had been killed.

“It’s astonishing that there was no other citizen or member of the public injured,” he said, crediting the quick actions of officers who responded.

“Both patrol officers and Greater Victoria emergency response officers (put) themselves in harm’s way to bring it to a successful and safe conclusion as quickly as possible.”

I’ll follow up with the guy tonight/tmw morning. I e-transfered $ to his mother who could withdraw it for gas and food. They were told they might be allowed back in their house this evening - in which case they won’t need more grocery money.

However, even if him and his wife and kid are back in their home and have access to food/wallet etc, he has taken it upon himself to start his own fundraiser to put together gift baskets or something for all of the police involved who saved his family from being shot. So if that’s a thing, maybe you wanna contribute to that ?
