Saw this posted on a Facebook group I'm in:
Pretty crazy. This stuff is super rare here. Although, with the cost of living.. I'm a bit surprised we haven't had more bank robberies. Or maybe we have and they don't publish news about them to prevent copy cats and this one made the news because it turned into a shootout and people died ? I wouldn't be surprised if we see more violent bank robberies in the months and years ahead.. desperate times/desperate measures and all that.
Pretty traumatizing for this guy and his family, too.
edit: I posted a reply to his post and he responded saying he and his family were in tears reading it. I suggested they see what Victim Services can do for them immediately/later, and whatever they're unable to do Right Now we can collectively afford to do as a group with $/volunteers and safety escort back into their home. I'm working with the admin of the group to facilitate this effort now - with nearly 11K group members, it doesn't take much $ x many guys to make things happen fast. Maybe another group members' home for shelter, maybe a hotel. etc. Food, clothing, shelter etc we'll make it happen - that's what we do!

There was a bank robbery in the town closest to us (we are in deep country). A young kid (18?) killed all five people in the bank at the time.
This never happens in this small town. It really shook people. Shook me as I was listening in real time. Of course nothing like what your clip describes.
They tore that building down and replaced it with a park and community center.
It's great you are helping that family. I'm not sure civilians ever get over being shot at.

I sent him $100 so he could feed his hungry kid and get gas to be able to drive back to his mom’s place to stay the night if they’re still not allowed back home yet - but he did get word that they may be allowed back into their home this evening. If they need more $ because they can’t even get inside to get their wallets then we’ll crowdfund it in minutes and make sure they have money for food and gas.

Explosive devices found in a vehicle connected to Saanich bank robbers killed
Saanich Chief Const. Dean Duthie said Wednesday an RCMP explosive disposal unit was able to transfer the devices from the vehicle to a local landfill and destroy them.
Police had evacuated the area shortly after the shooting on Tuesday as the explosives unit was called in.
Six officers were shot and two suspects were killed in the gunfight with police on Tuesday.
Duthie said three of the officers remain in hospital, including one who is in intensive care, while another officer will require more surgeries.
The chief said police are still investigating the possibility of a third suspect, although they don’t believe there is a risk to the public.
He said police were acting on vague information.
Duthie has looked at much of the video footage of the incident and said it is a miracle no one else had been killed.
“It’s astonishing that there was no other citizen or member of the public injured,” he said, crediting the quick actions of officers who responded.
“Both patrol officers and Greater Victoria emergency response officers (put) themselves in harm’s way to bring it to a successful and safe conclusion as quickly as possible.”
Glad your cops are not like the ones in Uvalde, Texas.
This was not your run of mill bank robbery. Has to be some sort of terrorist group or hardcore drug gang.

Partner and I would like to contribute.
I’ll follow up with the guy tonight/tmw morning. I e-transfered $ to his mother who could withdraw it for gas and food. They were told they might be allowed back in their house this evening - in which case they won’t need more grocery money.
However, even if him and his wife and kid are back in their home and have access to food/wallet etc, he has taken it upon himself to start his own fundraiser to put together gift baskets or something for all of the police involved who saved his family from being shot. So if that’s a thing, maybe you wanna contribute to that ?
I’ll find out more either tonight or tmw morning and let ya know what $ is being raised for what and you can decide.
