Kindergartens do, however, have to live in a world where they encounter the full gender and sexuality spectrum. My kids did. You don't have to teach them the advanced concept, just that all people are unique and that is OK. So the first time they encounter someone who looks like a girl but identifies as male and the child asks a question? "He may look like a girl to you but he wants to be called him, so we respect that" is probably as far as the conversation needs to go. My kids' went to a school that emphasized a simple "all people are unique and that is OK" philosophy and it made life better for everyone, whether their difference be ASD, paralysis, blind, albino, race, gender, or ?

The efforts to restrict discussions scare teachers because they know their students encounter these differences and are likely to ask about them. If a teacher isn't allowed to teach on the topic, they could get in trouble for answering the question.

(agree with you that the groomer threat is a device used to achieve a different agenda, but that doesn't stop the false scare from being harmful to real people)

In most urban schools, there isn't time to teach some "political agenda."

The priority, unfortunately, is to keep the class calm and "on task."

You might have some professors in colleges who are "woke," and who teach "critical race theory" and all that.....but most teachers in public schools teach according to the mandated curricula, and they "teach to the test," which is unfortunate. But there's certainly no "indoctrination" going on with most teachers. Because there is no time in an actual elementary school class to push a political agenda, should the teacher have one.

I am sure Twilightprincess doesn't have time to push "critical race theory" onto kids who have difficulty with the "3 R's." She's in the "field." She knows what's actually going on.

The only 'indoctrination' I have witnessed first-hand is when good teachers 'indoctrinated' students to sit down and shut up.  Sadly, good teachers are hard to come by, and many of the most promising teachers get burned out before receiving tenure.  There are two engineers and an office manager in my building who used to be teachers, and they shudder at the thought of ever teaching again.

Yep, that’s not a priority as a learning support teacher in an elementary school.

I wouldn’t say that I just teach the “3 R’s,” though.

I do try to select multicultural books that nurture openness, acceptance, tolerance, and kindness. I always get out the globe, so they can see where the story takes place, especially in relation to ourselves.

My father bought me a globe when I was about 6-7 years old; that stoked my interest in geography, and in knowledge in general.

when I was 8, he bought me the Columbia Encyclopedia, which I read up to the time I left home when I was 20.

Twilight does it with the subtlety and lack of bias that all good teachers use when conveying knowledge.

Some of my kids have never been out of this small town from Hell. I want them to know that there’s a big world out there, waiting to be discovered.

On an episode of Prager U, Prager argued that schools should just teach the 3 R’s. How boring and insufficient that would be!

The contention and politics could be contributing to the teacher shortage.

These are so true, Teachers really don't have time to read a copy of "Das Capital" or subscribe to "Socialist weekly"

It's one of the biggest lies perpetuated by conservative governments all over the western world that somehow teachers in government schools are spreading wokeness and socialism.

I actually hated my teachers when I was in my private expensive school, I can't remember having a single one who was inspiring but I look back and realise they were all stressed/overworked. The irony is that religious schools do try to indoctrinate their students. I know catholic liturgy/hymns of by heart.

My son thinks it’s hilarious, so we watch it together while deconstructing it. We have backed off from this recently because I don’t feel great about supporting them with my views. A topic would have to be especially enticing…

It’s fun to watch it and play “Let’s Spot the Logical Fallacy” at the same time.

The clicks and the revenue is the conundrum, isn't it? I think it's important to know first hand what all is out there, but I also don't want to support sites that blatantly spread misinformation.

Lately I've been getting my conservative news from the Dispatch instead of opening up the stuff that will just drive me crazy. I respect the staff at the Dispatch. And have Dox to thank for letting me know about it.

(I used to have a Facebook friend who constantly posted Pragar U and OAN, etc. She eventually kicked me off her page, though ... didn't want to hear any other sides. I was always tactful; I considered her a good friend. Oh well)

I watch Prager U, on occasion, for the laughs, not to be informed.
