I've been sitting back on this one, but have to say the content of the speech makes me uncomfortable. And if it makes me uncomfortable, it is likely backfiring. So. That is a concern.

I feel there is true authoritarian threat in far right politics right now, and that Trump has the ability to ride that to the negative destruction of our government and constitution. I can understand wanting that warning to get out there. But was this speech the way to talk about it? It's not feeling like it was.

Biden can be tone deaf, and this is an extremely sensitive topic to risk making a mistake with. All the research in the world won't tell a politician how to present an issue like this; either the instinct is there, or it isn't.

I agree with the thrust of what he was trying to say. I think we are too polarized for this speech to make any difference. If you are a progressive you are saying "it's about time neoliberal Joe finally stopped sucking up to the fascists". If you are a MAGA you are saying "just further proof the neoliberal deep state has declared war on us patriots"

Maybe they should have made Biden wear a Mao-suit to complete the image.

How hard is "don't look like an alternate history movie villain" as a political principle?

Obviously, harder than it looks

The cherry on top was Biden doing his signature ghost handshake move at the end.

Well, at least he got that much right.

Yep. 'tis what they call "calling a spade a spade." Funny that maga republicans take offence to being called out for who they are.. or maybe they're just shocked Biden spoke the truth about them ? :?

Biden is basically saying that American citizens who don't agree with him are enemies of the state.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAAHAHHAAHAAHAHAA!! !!

No.

That's not what he said. Go listen to/read his speech again.

He said that people who are actively trying to destroy American democracy & it's free and fair elections are enemies of the state - which they are.

People can disagree with Biden and still not be trying to destroy democracy in the USA & install some orange guy as dictator.

He was doing the basket full of deplorables routine regarding those who aren't members of his party, except he took it to a whole new level.

False. He spoke about the deplorable maga republicans that want to end US democracy and free & fair elections, differentiating from regular conservative republicans who differ on things like policies. He did not say anything about every American who isn't a member of his party being deplorable.. only the ones saying & doing deplorable things. And he barely said anything about it at all, ONCE, compared to the countless examples of magas and their right wing media propaganda circus beating the drums of insurrection. If anything he should have been telling those nutters off for months now vs. being so restrained so as to say a couple sentences about it 20 months after their failed coup.

If it was a coup, most of the people wouldn't have just walked around the capitol building for a while and then gone home. Put another way, if that's what a coup consists of, none of them would have ever had any chance of success.

Also can you quote "Magas" saying they want to "end US democracy and free & fair elections"? The reason why they staged a protest in the capitol building was because they thought an unconstitutional rigged election had taken place. They may have been completely wrong about that, but that is why they did it.

Furthermore only a small number of American citizens in relation the US population, and the number of Republicans, were involved in it. But Biden wasn't talking about just them. He was talking about anyone and everyone who doesn't support him as president and who doesn't support the Democrat agenda, being "Magas" who are enemies of the state.

LOL

Watch the J6 Hearings. trump & his republican operatives and loyalists attempted a coup. The maga morons that attacked the capital was a separate attempt. They tried a few different ways to overthrow the US gov't.

Regardless of what lies those people believed, fact is they attacked the duly elected US gov't and tried to overthrow it. "Staged a protest," LOL - they attacked the building and police.. they were trying to find and kill democrats & hang Mike Pence. That's not a "protest." Seems you've been getting your information from fox "news," considering the wording you've posted above - which is not news nor factual.

LOL Biden never said that anyone that doesn't support the Democrat agenda are magas. He said that magas are magas. Wtf? :?

Give one pertinent example that involved more than a minuscule percentage 75 million plus "Magas".

There was small percentage out of a minuscule number of "Magas" who did more than just parade around the capitol and go home. Remember, most capitol police just stood by and let most of it happen, because most of it didn't amount to anything more than people parading around.

How are "Magas" not the 74,223,369 Americans who voted for Trump instead of him?

Strange then that the 75 million and their GOP representatives in congress seem to openly support the Jan 6 insurgency
