Virginia Students walkout - Trans policies
HELL YEAH
Mmm, yeah, great thinking. As someone who has been using public restrooms a lot during the past 10 days in places like airports, not sorting by gender and "just being people" seems like a brilliant idea. Product of a genius. /sarcasm

What’s wrong with gender neutral public washrooms?
We already share them at home. They already exist in downtown night clubs, coffee shops, gas stations that only have one washroom etc.
Who cares who has to pee, drop a deuce, or wash their hands?

Yeah, yeah, let's rip those signs down. *grabs popcorn*

Both my kids hold strong and sincere beliefs that everyone should be able to live as their true selves. They apply it across the board, whether talking gender, culture, race, religion, or neurology.
Oh, I bet they have their own limits, such as transracialism, e.g. Rachel Dolazel (sp?). There do need to be guard rails, self ID into anything just isn't workable.
As for that last one, do your REALLY think a teenager is going to present themselves to their school community as trans when they aren't, just to get inside a girl's locker room? The day to day, long term, ramifications of how they choose to present themselves to their peers weigh far heavier on the scale than voyeurism can.
Absolutely, outsider identities are always attractive to young people, especially when they come with special privileges attached. Take a look at "spoonie" culture some time if you want a good example of how far some people will go for sympathy and attention.
Another generational value is authenticity. I know that it something they hold pretty high, that people should interact authentically with the world. But what my kids thought about those specific situations, I don't actually know. It hasn't come up.

Is that really a "danger," a bad thing? That doesn't mean I can't continue to be happy with and proud of my female identity. It just means that society will interact with me on an equal basis as it does to men. Does it currently? Not entirely. To think it does is a falsehood. As with any change, there would be positive and negative involved.

Gender neutral washrooms are far more prevalent in Canada than in the US. Takes a little getting used to but I personally think it works just fine. One big plus for women is that gender neutral means one bathroom line, not an empty line for men's, and one around the block for women. But most Americans aren't used to it at all. Much more of a Canadian and European thing, at least in my travels between the US, Canada, and Europe in the past decade. Can't speak to other places in the last decade.

Ok. Just put up a sign with symbols for sink, toilet, urinal, wheelchair accessible, and baby change station as appropriate.

There's lots of gender-neutral bathrooms in NYC. I don't feel outraged by this at all.
Where I work, in fact, the bathrooms are gender-neutral.
I do believe in absolutely equality amongst the genders----that people are people.
But I still feel it's nice when women are women, and men are men. Even while believing in the right of people to be what they want to be.
So wait, you don't think people should be allowed to be people?
I think people should be sorted by gender where appropriate. Like bathrooms and sports.

Has there ever been a generation who claimed otherwise? "Yeah, we're totally fake about everything, don't take us seriously".

OK, well, yeah, now that you put it like that ..
And I got a good chuckle.
Even though I know you will argue that the younger generation has its own limiting social constructs, what they look at is all the expectations someone like me grew up with. How to present oneself; business attire, dress codes, formalities in manners, etc. My kids see a lot of the things I feel are done out of consideration to the general public as being inauthentic.

Sounds like the set up for Brave New World.
So wait, you don't think people should be allowed to be people?
So if some hulking biker dude goes into the women's restroom or women's locker room, women are being bigoted or phobic if that bothers them?
