Kasey Funderburg, a sports reporter for the University of Tennessee and Vol Network, has reportedly been sacked after alleged past tweets from 2013 and 2014 using racial slurs surfaced
Funderburg was fired by UT after those tweets surfaced. She was 17 or 18-years-old at the time of the posts.

Funderburg reportedly responded to the tweet denouncing the statement, which led to her past tweets being discovered.

“THIS IS A FAKE ACCOUNT and it’s disgusting that this person thinks putting out a joke like this is okay. Please don’t believe everything you read on Twitter,” Funderburg posted, according to Knox News.

In a separate tweet, Funderburg reportedly posted: “A person who thinks it’s funny to put out that Tennessee is asking fans to wear blackface is disgusting. This is where I stand.”
According to Knox News, other Twitter accounts then shared screen shots that showed racial slurs posted in 2013 and 2014 from a Twitter account that appeared to belong to Funderburg.
A Change.org online petition calling for the Vol Network to “bring Kasey Funderburg Back” has garnered more than 1,000 signatures. The petition status is closed as of Tuesday morning.

My question is can you really make fake twitter accounts? and how easy it to verify?

No, you can't make "fake" twitter accounts. You can either gain control of the actual account if you hack it, or you can make an account with a similar name.

So the tweets aren't fake. Even if her account was hacked when she was 18, twitter would have removed them before her account was restored.

She's a lying racist, apparently...She would have been smarter to tell the truth, and apologized (its not like we all haven't done less than smart things as teens.)

She's just lying now, and the only thing she's sorry about was the fact that she was caught.

if you have done any stupid s**t in the past online and managed to use your real name or post your face, this is why you need to nuke your tweets so there are no traces of your past.

Samuel L. Jackson made a career on racial slurs, and he sees no shortage of work.

Hypocrisy.

Ok, then from an entirely professional perspective she's at the very least sloppy. If you are planning a media career then have the brains to first remove your past twitter feed if it's controversial?

When people first starting using twitter they had no idea how long their social media would stay on the internet. I think this thing is more common than just this incident. But I am guessing it depends on the workplace.

If you plan to work in the media and present yourself in the public eye you need scrub your social media clean (if that's possible).

I think you open yourself up if HR/employer wants to get rid of you, all they have to do is dig into your college tweets and extract some stupid comments you made about BLM, immigrants, gays or feminism.
