I bought a case of Bud Light to counter the bigotry. I drink very little so it will last awhile.

Seems to be working now. Try again.

Bud Light maker Anheuser-Busch to lay off hundreds of employees, company says

Quote:
Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of Bud Light, announced it would be laying off some 350 employees, many of them corporate positions, as it seeks to recover from the fallout over a campaign involving a trans influencer.

In a statement, the company said the layoffs would affect less than 2% of its approximately 18,000 employees nationwide.

The layoffs will not include frontline staff such as “brewery and warehouse staff, drivers, and field sales, among others,” the company said. The move was designed to “simplify and reduce layers within its organization,” it said.

This is going to end up in marketing textbooks as the arch example of the old adage "know your customer". It's such an unforced error too, though I'm happy to see a company get burned for weighing in on a live culture war issue, I'd like to see it happen more often.

It’s brought other value to the world though.. like if you know someone that stopped drinking bud light over this now you know they’re a piece of s**t and can stop associating with them. 8)

They should have picked a side...

Conservaritives are mad they sent a special can too a trans person, liberals are mad that bud light didn't pick a side and instead tried to go back on things to get conservatives re-intrested, when they have a whole new market of people who do not subscribe to right wing ideology they could tap into. Budweiser failed on both counts as they tried to do both.

That said I still really like a bud light chelada from time to time.

Good points.

Never ever heard of bud light chelada. Googled it - sounds good!

Maybe next time I go to Washington State I’ll have a look and see if I can find it anywhere.

Edit: Checked BC Liquor’s website. They sell it at 73 BCL stores - just not any of them close to me. The closest 3 are each about a half hour drive away. Whatever - I’ll make a point of swinging by with empty saddlebags and buying a couple 6 packs sometime. 8)

This is the logic that got them in trouble, thinking that there was some large untapped market for their crappy beer that could be swayed with a little virtue signalling, not understanding that their actual customers are actively offended by that kind of thing and the people who are into it are not cheap domestic lite beer drinkers. Pandering should hurt, and this one was a multi billion dollar mistake from what I've heard.
