Its (a) humans of the same skin color as governor Abbot. He has famously given the finger to the Feds and is wageing his own illegal state run war against brown skinned folks coming to his state from the south of the international border. And its (b) White skinned folks who disagree with him (Austin is a notoriously blue city in the red state of Texas). So that gives him an excuse to...i dunno know what now...evicting the whole population of Austin??????

Gee, it may have more to do with Austin being one of the most overbuilt and overpriced real estate markets in the country. Which leads to less in-migration and more net out-migration.

But why would the same governor, who is striving fanatically to keep folks OUT of his state, care if one city is not attracting migrants?

In a separate article, while Austin was one of the top "move out" cities, Houston was one of the top "move in" cities.

I can understand people wanting to leave Texas because of politics (I am trying to high-tail it out of here myself), yet another thing not mentioned is that Oracle, for example, is moving to Tennessee, which is even redder than Texas (neither state has a state income tax).

Someone tell Abbott there's a blizzard in Austin and he'll flee.

Wait, isn't Austin the city Abbot lives in? Maybe everyone was trying to get away from him.

That was Ted Cruz, but he's just as crazy as Abbott.

Are they leaving Austin for another Texas city/town, or are they leaving Austin for a different state?

I could be said to be part of an "exodus" from a blueish city metro in Oklahoma (understand, no city is actually blue in Oklahoma, but you know) but I'm not moving to some super conservative area of Oklahoma, I'm moving out of the state entirely for a blue state that protects my rights and freedoms.

The top "move in" state was South Carolina. I don't think politics played much of a role in move in or move out, I think it had more to do with cost of living and economic opportunities. Many of the "move out" cities were in California.

South Carolina has very beautiful beaches, but it's still very conservative. Plus Charleston in particular is more vulnerable to climate change and rising seas than anywhere else in the country.

North Carolina is more middle of the road politically. Raleigh and Charlotte both rank very highly in opinion polls.

If I were in Oklahoma, I would smoke a big fat joint (even though recreational pot is illegal in OK), then blow the smoke in Gov. Stitt's face.

Blue areas tend to be pricy places to live on top of Austin is considered " Trendy" so that means even a modest house is going to be expensive. People vote with their feet, and many are being priced out of The Austin market.

Oklahoma is about as conservative as it gets, I think in every presidential election since 2004, every county in OK went red. On the statewide races, the elections have been semi somewhat more competitive.

South Carolina is the place where many are moving to and I figure in 10 years' time or so, it will be a swing state in presidential elections. NC has always been in the middle of the road; they go Republican in presidential elections typically but have their fair share of both parties winning statewide office.
